    EMBASSY LOCATION/REGISTRATION: U.S. citizens traveling to Sudan despite this Travel Warning are urged to register with the Khartoum Consular Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, which is located at 8 Kamal el-Din Salah Street, Garden City, Cairo; telephone, (20)(2) 355-7371, ext. 3438 or 3439; fax (20) (2) 357-2472. The workweek in Cairo and Khartoum is Sunday through Thursday.
    The U.S. Embassy in Khartoum is located at Sharia Ali Abdul Latif. The mailing address is P.O. Box 699, Khartoum; telephone, (249)(11) 774-700; fax, 774-137. As noted above, the Cairo-based Consular Officer does not have regular access to Sudan.
    No U.S. diplomats have traveled to Khartoum since August 1998, and it is unclear when they will be able to do so. The State Department is unable, therefore, to provide comprehensive, up-to-date information on conditions in Sudan.
