Home Log In Register Help Select an Area Networking Solutions Technologies Ordering Technical Support About Cisco STUDENT INTERNSHIPS Student Internships Student Internships / Global Access Strong technical skills are only half of the equation when pursuing a career in IT. Work experience and workforce readiness are the other key components in the career development of students enrolled in the Cisco Networking Academy Program. An important step in getting real work experience and building job readiness is participating in internship or work placement activities.
Although the Cisco Networking Academy Program does not guarantee students an internship placement, we strongly encourage Academies to build local relationships with businesses to provide internships, job shadowing experiences, on site visits at the work place and guest speakers to introduce students to the workplace culture and how the networking skills they are learning fit into the day to day work flow of a business.
If you're already enrolled as a Student in the Networking Academy program, use the "Career Development" links on your Student Home Page to find out more about internships. From your Home Page, you'll have access to the Career Connection web site where you'll find postings for internships and job placements.
If you're considering enrolling as a Student in the Cisco Networking Academy Program, use the links on the Home Page of the Academy Connection to find out more about the program. >>

In addition to a rigorous curriculum designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a business career, the College has developed a number of programs that help prepare students for life after UNC. The College also houses a number of student professional organizations that tend to be geared to career development in one's chosen field. Students who participate in these organizations are eligible to participate in a number of supplemental programs, such as business field trips, invitations to guest speakers from industry, and membership in the corresponding national affiliate organization such as the American Marketing Association and the Financial Management Association, among others. Results of the most recent survey of UNC alumni indicated that the Monfort College graduates achieved a 95% placement rate within eight months of graduation.

Internships are a strategic part of the career management process. Many students depend upon internships to fine-tune their skills and make important corporate contacts. Students can participate in internships in either Track 1 or Track 2, after successful completion of the first trimester. Students must return to Thunderbird for at least one trimester after an internship in order to relate the practical experience to their educational goals. Internships may be one or two trimesters in duration, which extends the length of the program by that amount of time.
Internships, both within and outside the U.S., provide students with a practical application of their global business education. Approximately 40 percent of T-bird interns are offered employment by their host companies.

It is very important that the worksite supervisor, faculty and student all participate in the development of the objectives then join in a thorough review and evaluation of the outcome of the internship. Engage participating staff members prior to experience by briefing them about their role and the objectives of the student internship Prepare in advance by assigning the student to key individual(s), developing an orientation plan and creating a schedule designating meetings to review progress, answer questions and provide support or assistance. Evaluate progress by means of a checklist at midterm and the end of the term.

Jay Hardaway takes a break from his arduous labors in the McWhiney Foundation Press stock room. For those who want a direct hands-on approach to history, the Buffalo Gap Historic Village , owned by the Foundation, offers possibilities hard to match elsewhere. Instead of just reading about history, the Village’s historic buildings and programs give students the chance to participate in a physical recreation of it — to work directly in the mechanics of heritage tourism and historical reenactment . McMurry University student interns help to populate the period buildings of the Village with historical characters in period attire. (Nor is the work limited to history majors: physics students recently helped restore the telegraph system in the 1905 railroad depot).

PROCEDURES FOR ACQUIRING A MINNEAPOLIS AREA INTERNSHIP
W elcome to the Internships and Employment Services Minneapolis Internship page. A variety of promising internship possibilities are listed below. Because the following internships are located outside the state of Iowa, a certain degree of persistence and focused effort are necessary to obtain placement. A Minneapolis company will not consider Iowa applicants on their good name alone, however, being an out of state student doesn't have to be a disadvantage if the following procedures are implemented.
  • Students must send a quality cover letter and resume. The Office of Internships and Employment Services can help applicants review and complete their resumes. Contact Tom Epperly at extension 5250 and make an appointment for consultation.
  • Applicants will contact the company by phone to acquire availability information and application procedures. A phone call will demonstrate the applicant's interest and save time in the event that the job is filled or otherwise unavailable.
  • If questions arise, students may contact the Office of Internships and Employment Services or our Minneapolis internship representative George Lindall @ phone # (612) 889-0774. George is very familiar with internship possibilities in Minneapolis and will work hard to place dedicated applicants in a workable setting that is a good fit for both the employer and employee.
