Standardized test results are one of a number of factors considered by most colleges in the admissions process. For large public universities that process thousands of undergraduate applications, test scores and high school grades often enter into a formula that automatically accepts, rejects or defers a student's application. Only students in the "deferred" category are reviewed by an admission professional. For the majority of students, there's no need to take both tests.
