About Us find out more about the Sri Lankan Society at ... Society The Sri Lankan Society was founded and registered in early 2002 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). We work hand in hand with the community organization in the area, the Sri Lankan Association , which was formed in late 2001 in achieving our goals. The association of these two organizations, the former directly affiliated with the UIUC and the latter representing the Sri Lankans living in Urbana-Champaign, helps bring the UIUC affiliates and non-affiliates together in working toward our common interests and goals. One of our prime objectives is to promote and increase the awareness and understanding of the Sri Lankan culture in the UIUC and the Urbana-Champaign community. We also plan and carry out projects mostly educational to help the needy in Sri Lanka. While serving as a liaison between the UIUC and the Sri Lankan community in Urbana-Champaign, we help foster the fellowship among the Sri Lankans by organizing community events that often coincide with the religious and cultural events in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Society at Urbana-Champaign is in full compliance with all federal and state nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws, orders and regulations.
