Jump to: Main navigation Related pages Search (Picture removed: "englandwin.jpg") England celebrate victory HISTORY Final Score: An extra-time dropped goal from Jonny Wilkinson won the Rugby World Cup for England against Australia in Sydney on Saturday. Wilkinson took the initiative in the first period of extra time, and England managed to hang on until Flatley once again brought Australia level with just four minutes left to play. A golden-score period of time looked likely, but with the clock showing less than sixty seconds remaining, Wilkinson struck sublimely to send the 40,000-strong English support into a frenzy. Beating Australia on their home turf was always going to take a titanic effort, but as Lawrence Dallaglio explained, England had the resolve to live up to expectations. England captain Martin Johnson, who is possibly considering retirement from the international game, was quick to pay tribute to the hard work of the entire England set up.

In the late 50s and early 60s the academic institution wanted to broaden its activities. The College merged with the Scottish College of Commerce, which offered a wide range of business and arts subjects. Shortly afterwards, in 1964, the enlarged Royal College was granted the Royal Charter and became the University of Strathclyde. A passion for sport
Australians have always loved sport, and excelled at it. Even before Federation in 1901, 'Australia' was competing internationally as a nation. Despite its relatively small population, Australia has consistently had world champions in most sports. The most recent example of Australia's sporting prowess is its athletes' success at the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Finishing in fourth place overall in the Olympic competition, Australians won 58 medals. Australia gained first place in the Paralympics, with a total of 149 medals. But it is not just a strong will and a natural aptitude for sport that makes Australian athletes champions in their disciplines. Applying the newest scientific technologies to training can literally mean the difference between winning and losing in competition. The role that science plays in sport is now a major factor in Australia's sporting success. In addition, Australia's elite athletes have a large support network of coaches, managers, scientists, doctors, physiotherapists and nutritionists.

The Sports and Recreation Center The Sports and Recreation Center complex is a dynamic facility providing many and varied types of activity areas used by University constituents and the general public. It play an important role in the "campus life experience" of our students. As the facilities are all multipurpose areas, it is adaptable for a multitude of activities. It is a focal point on campus for social and recreational activities. We are proud of our Sports and Recreation Center complex and its importance to the overall goals, mission, and vision of our university. Considered by many in the field to be one of the finest state-of-the-art multipurpose facilities in the Northwest, the concept for the Sports and Recreation Center (SRC) began as the vision of Dr. Jack Leighton. Dr. Leighton, as Eastern's Chair of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics from 1953 to 1981, was the leader of a task force that developed the plan for the facilities. Department professors Bob Anderson, Peggy Gazette and Pete Hagelin, along with Wayne Loomis of Facilities Planning, rounded out the committee, which as a team, gathered information and shaped the ideas into the recreation and sports complex we have today.

As athlete or coach, Lindsay and Andrew Gaze have been involved in every Summer Olympics since 1956. DANDENONG, Australia - A simple handshake between Lindsay and Andrew Gaze at center court captures both the history of Australian basketball and one family's Olympic odyssey. Lindsay, the father, was one of the sport's pioneers Down Under. Andrew, the son, is perhaps Australia's greatest player. Between them, they have appeared as an athlete or coach at every Olympics since 1956 - a streak that began with the Melbourne Games and will stretch to 12 Olympiads when Andrew plays at the Sydney Games next month.

The History of Racquetball
Racquetball is a fast game played on an enclosed indoor court, with a racquet and ball, popular in North America since the early 1970s. The game was developed by Joe Sobek in 1949 in the United States from a combination of squash and handball.
The racquetball racquet is a shorter, lighter version of the one used in tennis. The lively, hollow rubber ball is about the size of a tennis ball. The rules are basically similar to handball rules, and versions exist for two players (as in singles), four players (as in doubles), and three players (as in cutthroat). The first side to score 15 points wins a game. In a match, two games are played. If each player or team wins one game, an 11-point tiebreaker is played to decide the winner of the match. The United States Racquetball Association, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee as the U.S. national governing body for the sport. Racquetball has it's roots from two other sports:squash and handball.
