This page has been created because my old ones have not been edited for so long it's easier to create a whole new batch. The old pages still exist: you can view them here . Please be aware that half the links on those pages may not work as I haven't updated or checked them in at least two years. New! Graduation photos! Yes, I know it's been two years since I graduated. Hey, at least I got them up. If you are looking for Tiki19's Residence, go here If you are looking for the source of quietude, you're on the right track. If you've come here from Barefoot Rick's page, like about 50% of people do, you might want to look around the library of my residence for some relevant stories. I have a few. If you'd like to know more about me for any reason, go ahead and flick through the links below. Or try Google - the last time I typed my own name into the search box, the first ten or so links that came up were mine. It covered quite a wide range of things that I do or have done, from dancing with spiders to swimming with dragons. If you're looking for non-computer forms of contact details, look in the Australian White Pages - I'm in there under "Tiki Swain". I currently live in Bentley, Western Australia, if that helps.

[Updated Oct 2001] *Some professional-quality fiction is starting to show up on the Internet, for example some authors are putting a few published stories on-line, and there are a number of new sites devoted to telling stories via web pages - usually in serial form. The line between Web E-zines and serial fiction has been blurring lately; if a web e-zine is just telling one story in installments, I'll list it under Serial Fiction . And publishers have been putting sample chapters of new books on-line for a while now, see

    http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishancestors/Law/IALT/Address.html
    The Future of the IALT
On 6th April 1979 at Trinity College Dublin the Constitution of the Irish Association was adopted. Thus the IALT is now twenty-five years old, it has an ordinary membership North and South of approximately 90 engaged in law teaching, in addition there are approximately 35 associate members in other organisations and elsewhere. The membership includes a current President of Ireland, and has included a former President of Ireland, a former First Minister of the Northern Executive, and as far as I am aware a current Minister in the Government of South Africa. In addition there are members within the judiciary. However in the past year there has not been one quorate meeting of the Council of the IALT, over the past number of years it has proved difficult to contact officers of the Council at times. As Membership Secretary during the past year I have not performed as well as I should. There was no Mid Year Conference during the course of the past year. Attendance at Conferences in recent years has not been great in my view, in particular only a small number of members of the association attend Conference. Most of the conference participants are those who are giving papers, most papers are given by those who are not members of the association, and very little association business other than conference business is conducted. My first conference was in Galway in 1983 and I have seen a decline in the association since that time. You meet far fewer people who are involved in law teaching or its administration in Ireland at conference now. There are members of this association whom I have never seen at a conference or have not seen at such for a long number of years. It would appear that the IALT has lost its attractiveness to senior people involved in the teaching of the law in Ireland. It may be that there are rival associations (variously described as Societies and Centres) that people are involved in.

New Zealand Association of Scientists Marsden Medal 2000
The Marsden Medal is awarded for outstanding service to science and in recognition of services rendered to the cause or profession of science. This year, David Penny, Professor of Theoretical Biology, Massey University was awarded the 2000 Medal for his outstanding service to science, not only in New Zealand but also on the world stage. Professor Penny's contributions to New Zealand science are extensive. He has supervised many students who have gone on to independent research careers; currently he is supervising seven PhD and MSc students. He prompted Massey University and other institutions to review policies underpinning teaching and research and he has nurtured a national community of scientists committed to a rigorous understanding of our indigenous environment. David Penny has extensive international recognition and consequently he has an extensive network of collaborators throughout the world. He has Associate Fellowships at Merton College, Oxford, and Darwin College Cambridge. He is Past President of the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution, and has ongoing work with groups in Japan, USA, Britain, and Sweden. Currently he is developing a new project with colleagues at the Fiji School of Medicine to unravel the origins and distribution of hepatitis throughout Polynesia. Over many years he has been a passionate advocate in the science policy arena, in New Zealand and abroad. Last year he participated in the BBC series "Beyond 2000" which reviewed the changing attitude to Great Apes based on growing awareness of their mental abilities.
