Welcome! Research in the Laboratory for Plasma Spectrochemistry, Laser Spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry includes fundamental studies of plasmas used for elemental analysis, aerosol generation and processing, development of new techniques for elemental speciation and application of analytical measurement techniques to environmental and geological problems. On-going experiments range from laser induced fluorescence image detection of individual clouds of atoms and ions produced from a single drop of solution (an atom cloud is shown to the left), to investigation of electrospray and ion spray processes that lead to sampling of intact ions from solutions, to measurement of metal-ligand complexation systems that are important in metal pollutant transport and remediation. We'll be putting some of our latest, most exciting results (including some beautiful images and later, movies), software and useful links to other interesting information on this page, so visit us often.

Credit Card Payment Nordic Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry June 6-9, 2004, Loen, Norway The Analytical Section of the Norwegian Chemical Society invites scientists and users of science to this first Nordic Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry. This announcement provides information about the goal and format of the meeting, instructions for the preparation of abstracts, accommodation and travel arrangements, registration details and the meeting venue. The Organising Committee cordially invite you to attend this conference and to contribute to the programme. We sincerely hope that you will respond positively to this invitation and call for papers. Please inform your colleagues about this opportunity to share and discuss their recent experiences and to be scientifically updated through a number of short courses given by international leading specialists in typical Norwegian informal surroundings. We look forward to your attendance at and participation in this scientific event. Objectives and Main Topics By contrast to other plasma spectrochemistry meetings, the short courses will be offered to all participants during the four day meeting which may be very attractive to participants to learn about and to be updated on plasma spectrochemistry. We are planning to organise 16 short courses, two or three in parallel each day , as part of the conference. This new consept is ment to stimulate nordic users of plasma based techniques to learn more about theoretical and practical issues as well as obtain specialists recommendations for methods improvements. Thus these short courses are also a unique opportunity for laboratory engineers to be updated.

T he European Award for Plasma Spectrochemistry has been donated by Agilent Technologies to promote analytical plasma spectrochemical developments and applications in Europe. The prize will be awarded for either a single outstanding piece of work in the field of plasma spectrochemistry, usually carried out after a PhD thesis, or for continuous important contributions to this field. The award is not limited to any age of the candidate but he/she must be an European national or the work must have been carried out in an European laboratory. The prize will be awarded every second year and presented at the “European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry”. The winner is invited to present a lecture at this conference following the award ceremony. The prize consists of EUR 5000, coverage of the usual costs for participating at the European conference, and a trip to Japan to attend a scientific event or seminar, where the winner will also be invited to present a lecture. The first winner of the award was Prof. Dr. Detlef G
