Special Olympics Tennessee The Greeks regarded the human body as a treasure, and believed that physical discipline nurtured both body and spirit. Special Olympics Tennessee has always recognized the wisdom in that ancient philosophy. Through sports training and competition, Special Olympics provides individuals with mental retardation or related developmental disabilities opportunities to develop physical talents. It helps them develop confidence and self-esteem. It strengthens social skills and family relationships. It teaches goal-setting, creates leadership qualities, and provides expression for the indomitable spirit that make all of us special. And, in all these ways, Special Olympics prepares Athletes to succeed in the wider world, and garners respect and acceptance within our own communities. Welcome to our web site. Enjoy, learn, participate. Our site is designed to answer basic questions, provide practical and timely information, and make opportunities available.
