The Spaceflight and Life Sciences Training Program (SLSTP) is an intense, academically challenging, six-week summer program at the Kennedy Space Center, in Florida. The SLSTP represents NASA’s educational investment in tomorrow. The program is for undergraduate college students interested in learning how to successfully design and conduct biological research, manage operations in space and assess the environmental impacts of a launch site. At the end of this program, Trainees develop an unparalleled understanding of the NASA mission and the meaning of “…as only NASA can”. Join us in 2004. The dates for the 2004 program are June 7 - July 16. Trainees arrive the Saturday prior to program start (June 5) and leave on Sunday after the program ends (July 18). Project counselors arrive June 1 and leave July 22, 2004. NASA John C. Stennis Space Center Co-Directing Institutions: University of Southern Mississippi Southern University at Baton Rouge Period of Appointment: June 7th through August 13th, 2004 Program Description
For more than four decades, the John C. Stennis Space Center has served as NASA's rocket propulsion testing ground. The center currently provides test services not only for America's space program, but also for the Department of Defense and the private sector. Today, Stennis Space Center is NASA's program manager for rocket propulsion testing. As such, it manages NASA's rocket propulsion test assets and activities for rocket propulsion testing, including facilities at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, the White Sands Test Facility in New Mexico, and the Glenn Research Center's Plum Brook Station in Ohio. Stennis Space Center is unique in that NASA and more than 30 resident agencies share the cost of owning and operating the facility, making it more cost-effective for each agency to accomplish its independent mission.
