"Light induces small currents in all matter."
Now you say light propagates by inducing currents in matter. So is it correct to presume that you think space is full of matter to allow light to propagate, and as such there is no such thing as a vacuum in your mind.
NB: I restrained myself from saying 'other than in your mind'.

Dark Energy: Astronomers Still 'Clueless' About Mystery Force Pushing Galaxies Apart
By Andrew Chaikin

posted: 07:00 am ET
15 January 2002
It sounds like something out of a Star Trek episode: Dark energy, a mysterious force that no one understands, is causing the universe to fly apart faster and faster. Only a few years ago, if you'd suggested something like that to astronomers, they would have told you to spend less time in front of the TV and more time in the "real" world. But dark energy is real or at least, a growing number of astronomers think it is. No one, however, can truly explain it. "Frankly, we just don’t understand it," says Craig Hogan, an astronomer at the University of Washington at Seattle. "We know what its effects are," Hogan says, but as to the details of dark energy, "We’re completely clueless about that. And everybody’s clueless about it." Dark energy entered the astronomical scene in 1998, after two groups of astronomers made a survey of exploding stars, or supernovas, in a number of distant galaxies. These researchers found that the supernovas were dimmer than they should have been, and that meant they were farther away than they should have been. The only way for that to happen, the astronomers realized, was if the expansion of the universe had sped up at some time in the past. Astronomy, just for the fun of it.
Comet Hale-Bopp LASSO usually meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, at the fire substation at 23rd and Reynolds. There is usually a presentation on a topic of general astronomical interest, along with a question and answer period for specific topics. Various types of telescopes are on hand for a viewing session after the meeting. The meetings are free and are open to the general public. LASSO is a member of the Front Range Astronomical Super Cluster or FRASC. It is also a member of the Mountain Area Research Section of the Astronomical League and the International Dark Sky Association. These are groups of regional and national clubs and societies having a common interest in astronomy. FRASC helps with the planning of each association's activities, to be the most beneficial to all its members. You can easily join LASSO and begin enjoying the benefits of membership: Access to our dark sky sites, access to our club telescope (an 8" Newtonian reflector on a Dobsonian mount), discounts on Sky and Telescope and Astronomy magazines and free copies of Reflector, a publication of the Astronomical League. Dues are only $15.00 per year and include all family members. Please feel free to send e-mail to one of the addresses below, or you can send a check or money order to:

Ask the Astronomer
Conducted by Dr. Sten Odenwald Search this site! Do you have a question about astronomy and space science? You've come to the right place. At this site I have an archive of thousands of questions that visitors have sent me since August 1995. I have collected 365 of the all-time most popular FAQs in my new book Back to the Astronomy Cafe . These answers have produced over 1,000,000 page requests since 1995! In each of the subject categories below, I have grouped the questions into the categories 'Beginner', 'Intermediate' and 'Advanced' depending on the kind of question it is, and the level of difficulty in composing an answer without using mathematics or complicated physical principles. Although the 'Beginner' answers do not involve mathematics and physics, they may involve simple arithmetic. 'Intermediate' answers may use 'Scientific Notation' and a few algebraic equations where necessary. Many of the ' Advanced' questions seem simple to state, but the answers require some physics and math background to really make the fullest sense of the non-mathematical answers that I will try to provide. If you are a 'Beginner'
