The population density African American , 10.14% Native American, 1.00% Asian , 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 2.77% from two or more races. 2.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 23,969 households out of which 31.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.7% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% are non-families. 29.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.96.
