Family Leadership. The Extension Service, with significant support from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, developed a number of sustainable and influential Family Community Leadership (FCL) Programs throughout the nation which addressed the needs of family units, members of communities, and the larger society. Traditional FCL programs provide participants with personal empowerment, motivation of volunteers, group management tools, leadership skills, increased understanding of public policy formation. Train-the-Trainer. FCL has a specific curriculum and delivery method. The curriculum is taught at state universities by extension professionals. FCL graduates, in turn, teach others at the community level what they have learned. FCL refined the classic train-the-trainer model to disseminate university-based knowledge. Participants are expected to become involved in public policy as a result of their increased skills and confidence.

http://www.scasa.org/2003legplat.htm
DRAFT 2003 Legislative Platform and Position Statements South Carolina's challenge is to come together – to engage our public and find the spirit of coalition and collegiality as we propel our students to the level of achievement needed in the twenty-first century. The South Carolina Association of School Administrators calls upon itself and all who care about South Carolina's future to focus on continued educational improvement, to set aside particular interests and address collective responsibility, and once again, to engage our energies on our tomorrows. SCASA
Funding Public Education The General Assembly’s first priority must be adequate and equitable funding of Pre K-12 and adult education. The shortfall in funding is seriously jeopardizing ongoing improvements in the education of children and adults in South Carolina and negatively impacting the recruitment and retention of quality teachers.

Background:

Nutrient management has been an important issue with South Carolina farmers for literally hundreds of years. From the first stages of nutrient management in the State - including application of animal manures and usage of cover crops to retain nutrients between agronomic crop plantings - to today's management practices including split applications of commercial fertilizers and/or animal manures and manure nutrient analysis, the nutrient management focus has been the same - apply only what the crop needs and apply it as the crop requires it.
Commercial pesticide management has followed a similar theme over the past 50 years - determine the economic threshold where the financial loss due to reduced yields or production will exceed the application costs of a pesticide, and when this threshold is met apply only the labeled pesticide at labeled rates to control the pest or weed. Conditions in Your Watershed: Information concerning the relative health or impairment of State waters is available through the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) and through the U.S.

Does Your Organization Face These Challenges?
  • A continuing "explosion" of paper, electronic, and other records?
  • Decentralized control of records - people in various offices only "trying" their best?
  • Uncertainty about which records should be on computer, in paper systems, on microfilm, or in digital imaging systems?
  • Uncertainty about how long to retain records and concern about legal exposure because of records destroyed too quickly or retained too long?
  • Nonexistent or inconsistent records-retention policies and practices?
  • Unprotected vital records, too many misfiles, too many lost records?
  • Messy or inefficient filing systems for paper records?
  • Uncertainty about how the Internet and intranets can be used for records management?
  • Questions about "imaging systems" and their potential for your organization?
