Songwriting tips
Songwriting tips: Many of us have tried to write a song or even put music to our poetry. This article explains the steps of songwriting collaboration.
Most of us, some time in our lives, have probably tried to write a song, or even attempted to put our poetry into music. The feelings contained within our songs and poems are a significant part of us. Songwriting is an excellent outlet for creativity and sometimes even a healer of sorts. So how does one get started? If you are strictly lyricist or strictly composer, you will need to start by finding a collaborator. Does this have to be someone close to you in physical distance? Absolutely not. bodyOffer(29920) Does it need to be someone who can come to sit with you in the living room to write songs together? Another negative answer. It can be done with a collaborator half a country or world away via the internet. There are a few things to keep in mind when a collaborator is found. The first item of business, although some songwriters do not see the need, is to draw up some kind of collaboration agreement. This can be researched on-line and protects both parties. Get to know your collaborator. Make sure that there is trust and that you won't have a problem if you or the other person isn't satisfied with the lyrics or music. Those kinds of decisions must be mutually agreed upon. Another thing to know up front is how payment for your studio demo will be handled. Will the costs be split right down the middle? Who will do the pitching of the song once it's in demo form? All vital things to know before beginning such a venture.

OK, let's get right to the main topic! Song writing tips and information on writing song lyrics and music songwriting help. Here's a summary of the basics.
Songwriting Theme, Idea, Structure, Impact:
  • The idea should be fairly unique or a unique way of addressing a more common theme (a new or unique way of saying some of the same old things).
I once read somewhere that "there are no new emotions", there are just new ways of describing or expressing them...
  • The song should generate an emotion or feeling . Make them want to laugh, cry, make love, etc...

Since then we have had two more weekends with similar results and one student having produced a CD. To How to book a weekend Click for larger picture Cathryn Craig is a songwriter and Brian is an accompanist, between them they will help you write and perform your own material. You will need to bring with you material that you are working on so that we can get one song to finish and perform over the weekend. This will be put onto cassette for you to take home. Message from Brian and Cathryn "The sense of achievement you feel from finishing and then performing your own song is hard to measure. All we can tell you is that we have both worked extensively with celebrated songwriters, but our greatest job satisfaction comes from playing our own songs and having an audience appreciate them.
On this course, our only requirement is that you bring enthusiasm and an instrumental / lyrical idea and we will help you to complete it. We will show you how to craft the structure of your song, whatever musical style or genre and help you with your confidence skills to enhance your vocal or instrumental performance.

Elaine Lachica: Genre-busting through Contrary Motion
Carried away amidst the lulling folds of Elaine Lachica's deep, soulful chants, I felt the urge to draw a hot bath, dim the lights, and disappear amidst bubbles and dreams... Elaine's music is unlike anything I've ever heard or experienced, and it came as a pleasant surprise. She emailed me a few days prior, and I encouraged her to send me her media kit and CD for review. Nothing about our correspondence suggested that I should expect the unorthodox, so I guessed that Elaine would be like the rest of 'em - another indie-pop voice with guitar accompaniment, delivering angst-ridden lyrics about boys, the blues, and other banalities. On the contrary, Elaine has constructed her own creative category. She has been hailed a "multi-dimensional" artist, who embraces the challenge of integrating various aspects of musicmaking. Elaine's new CD, "9", envelopes listeners in a fantastic world of eclectic rhythms, sounds, and lyrics. One spin of the disc and I, for one, wanted to know more.
9 Questions for Elaine Lachica: YG: When and how did you become interested in music - singing, songwriting, performing, etc.? Do you take after anyone in the Lachica family?

The Top Ten FAQs On The Business Of Songwriting: #9
By Mary Dawson
When I first began my journey as a songwriter, the word was a term that was made up of equal parts mystery, awe and paranoia is kinda like eggplant . Although the word sounds pretty scary, but when you actually try it...it ain't so bad after all! The definition of is very simple it is the exclusive right to copy fixed in a tangible form or medium such as written lyrics and/or transcribed notes on music paper and/or an audio recording. The key word here is fixed . As long as your song is simply floating around in your head or just a melody you sing in the shower, it has not yet taken on a tangible form. It is obscure and hazy until after Performing Arts and is used for songs. For lyrics only, you can request a TX Form (

Radio Crystal Blue interview with Jenn Lindsay Interview conducted via email August 2002 Q. Jenn, I first encountered your artistry through another fine antifolkster who also traveled many miles to NYC...Casey Holford. Are you two strictly songwriting/performing partners? Can we look forward to more collective works from you both?
A. Casey Holford and I haven't yet written anything together, but we've been able to apply our strengths to each others' music-his instrumental intuition adds a ton to songs of mine, "I Am Not Going Home Yet," "Red Shirt," and
"Sidewalk Song;" and I sing backup on two of his songs that will be released on his new album "Bad Spell, Good Spell." Overall Casey's idiosyncratic brand of songwriting has compelled me to push myself further as an iinstrumentalist and as a craftsperson of rich songs. But our writing styles are HUGELY disparate. That said, I do hope that we'll keep collaborating and performing together for years to come, because we have a rich creative
relationship. He's awesome.
