Software Title: 500 Nations
Appropriate Age Group
  • Use with a unit on Native Americans and American History. Children could use it to do research, compare and contrast tribes. The storytelling section is particularly meaningful because you get to hear first hand accounts, hear music, see pictures, and read text all at once. (Excellent program - provides information not available in books.)
  • Lots of fun stuff, stories, history, and information. Could be used in social studies units and could also be used in a storytelling unit of language arts instruction.
  • My mini-unit is on Native Americans and I can't even begin to record all the ways I would use this program. One thing I would like to emphasize and encourage is the children's understanding of the position of the Native Americans and this does such a wonderful job of providing this. I'm so excited about this I can't organize my thoughts, but I'll let you know what I've done.

QWIZDOM, INC.
Teaching Made Easy, Learning Made Fun Mission Statement
Qwizdom, Inc. is an educational software company dedicated to providing technology to help teachers teach and students learn using a limited number of computers in the classroom. Company History
In 1982, after trying in vain to find quality educational science software for use in his classroom, science teacher Ray Beamish decided to create his own. His goal was to develop software that could be used on a single computer and would educate, motivate, and be easy to use for the entire class. Two years later Beamish produced his first software program called Computer Assisted Science Labs for Chemistry, and CASL Technologies, now Qwizdom, Inc., was launched. Beamish traveled across the country talking to teachers, soliciting their input and ideas and improving the software. In 1986, the company released software for physical science and in 1990, Beamish decided to improve the way teachers teach every subject.

on Business Software Selection at Excelco.com. Just Buy It If you sell software, buy this book and read it, chew it up and digest it. As the other reviews say, this book is practical. Not some ivory tower theory on how to sell, it tells you exactly what to do and not to do. The margins in my copy are filled with notes. The front and back covers have to do checklists of ideas that I thought of while reading that I want to put into practice. Selling software is like no other type of selling. This book is the seminal work on the subject. The scenes you are about to read are TRUE!

Read it in the bath. Changed my life I am an art director for an ad agency, and I design web sites. I discovered this brilliant book at the perfect time. It has made me a better designer and re-awakened my passion for what I do. This small volume is not simply a great design resource: it delves remarkably deeply into the philosophical, spiritual and even political dimensions of design, showing how and why we must infuse the work we do with heart and soul. And lest I make it sound airy-fairy, it's not; It's rigorous, practical and muscular, with not a wasted sentence. And fun to read, too. Bravo. The Interactive Geometry Software
by Jürgen Richter Gebert and Ulrich H. Kortenkamp
Reviewed by Ed Sandifer
Since The Geometer's Sketchpad revolutionized the way we teach geometry, people have seen little need for much else in the way of geometry software. Cabri has developed a bit of a following, but it and most other geometry software are usually described as "like Sketchpad , but ..." The Geometer's Sketchpad has remained the standard. Cinderella is more. Besides all the familiar constructions of Sketchpad Cinderella supports constructions in spherical and hyperbolic geometry, includes a theorem prover (more about that later), has more general animation features, and generates Java applets that paste easily onto web pages. You can also generate applets to create self-checking construction exercises. The creators of the software have a web site, http://www.cinderella.de , that demonstrates many of these features. The animation of a cycloid on a sphere is particularly spectacular. There is a nice animation of a linkage, and the self-checking construction of the bisection of a line segment gives an alluring hint of how Cinderella could be used in the classroom.
