Sociology, Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Women's Studies
The basic objective of Sociology and Anthropology studies is to provide courses and course material which will aid in the understanding of human life in all of its manifestations, for both those interested in a career in the social sciences, and those interested in rounding out their liberal arts education. The basic tenet of Sociology and Anthropology studies is that a person is by nature a social creature and that any total understanding of human behavior and experience must include the social and cultural milieu which affects all peoples.
The offerings are thus geared to show: The socio-cultural environment of humans;
How a person adapts and adjusts to this environment;
How humans interact with each other and become a part of social life; and
The social structures and systems which are constructed to perpetuate this social life.
Therefore individuals are seen not only in their personal or historical dimensions, but also as they actually exist, inextricably bound to others and their surroundings.

    Abstract This paper is concerned with the unintended consequences of the incarceration of parents on children. These consequences may include problems with separation, caretaking, schooling, antisocial behavior during childhood, educational failure, precocious sexuality, premature departures from home, early childbearing and marriage, and idleness and joblessness during adolescence and early adulthood. I propose a longitudinal study to examine the dimensions and causes of these problems among children of parents sentenced in the federal district courts of New York. A major premise of this proposal is that the withdrawal or loss of a parent can result in the loss not only of economic capital, but also of social capital involving relationships among family members and the organization of family life toward the maintenance and improvement of life chances of children.

In fact it is a major contribution of Krishna (who has later been deified) to socio-political thought and reorganisation of the social polity of Ancient India. Dr. Nagarajan's previous works have been dealing with the transition from the pre-varna vedic society of Ancient India to the post-vedic varna society which survives to this day. For the first time every one of the seven hundred verses of the Gita has been examined critically with reference to this transition and creation of a new rational social polity. All religiosity and ethnicity have been kept out in order to arrive at a schemata that may be applicable to all societies and civilisations. Many misconceptions about ancient

    Sociology at Chicago
    The University of Chicago Department of Sociology is among the great sociology departments of the world. Founded in 1892, Chicago has a proud tradition of creative and foundational work. Chicago graduates and faculty have shaped sociological subfields from stratification and demography to deviance and urban studies. They have originated methodologies from path analysis and log-linear modeling to urban ethnography. Diverse in interests, methodologies, theories, and politics, faculty and students at Chicago are unified in their intensity of intellectual commitment, in their attempt to combine rigorous inquiry with mutual intellectual respect, and in their aspiration to continuously reimagine sociology as a framework for social inquiry.

    Socio-Economic Research on Technology
    Social and economic research on technology at RCSS focuses upon the social shaping of technology, particularly in relation to Information and Communications Technologies Research has addressed the development and implementation of company-wide information systems in manufacturing industry and in the finance service sector. More recent work examined the development of Inter-Organisational Networks and Systems such as Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale (EFTPoS) and Electronic Data Interchange. Deep understanding has been achieved of the close relationship between 'technology' and 'organisation' in Information and Communications Technologies - as a process of mutual shaping, rather than the deterministic triumph of one over the other. This work has revealed that innovation is not restricted to the initial Research and Development of new technological products, but continues as they are commercially applied and used. Thus, workplace technologies are reshaped within the industrial setting, as supplier offerings are adapted and further elaborated to meet the requirements of their implementation and use. More recent research projects examine the emergence of Multimedia and the Information Superhighway studying the co-evolution of society and technology, and the interactions between industrial innovators, users at work and home, and public policy.
