Coach Captains Roster Schedule ... Haverford Home Page History Haverford became the first intercollegiate men's soccer program in the country to record 700 all-time wins with a 7-0 victory against Neumann on September 7, 2002. The oldest organized college soccer team in the nation, the Fords' rich tradition began a century ago when Richard Gummere '02 entered a club from the college in a local league. The soccer program soon gained national prominence when Haverford defeated Harvard University, 1-0, in the first modern-day intercollegiate soccer match on April 1, 1905. The Crimson's team had been started by Haverfordians who went to Cambridge for graduate school.
Haverford was one of the top teams in the nation in the first half of the century, often winning the national title over an essentially Ivy League schedule. The 1945 team was undefeated. The soccer squad was a regional power in the 1950's under its great Scottish mentor, U.S. Olympic coach and Soccer Hall of Famer Jimmy Mills. As late as 1960, two Fords, Harold Taylor and Gyula Kovacsics, both '61, were named to a first-team All-American eleven that included players from major universities.
In the mid-'70's, Haverford became a frequent NCAA tournament qualifier and won the Middle Atlantic Conference Southern Division five times between 1976 and '82 under coach Dave Felsen '66, now headmaster at Friends Central School near Philadelphia, and Stanley "Skip" Jarocki '69.

B-Soccer History
Version 2.0 was introduced and tested [Versions]
The above mentioned parameters where introduced to B-Soccer in order to influence the GA. Robots that dont move or that are never near the ball cannot get children. This should generate teams consisting of more agile robots that have the tendency to be near the ball [Results] Several new versions where released [Versions] I am trying to get more results by running longer simulations (But that takes a long time). While all this simulations are running I am writing my own soccer simulation. The name of the Project is V-Soccer. It should be smaller and faster than Java-Soccer [Links] which I am using at the moment. The robots interface is closer related to the interface of the robo-cup simulation league.
The first longer simulations where run and the results are not very impressing. Goals happen very seldom. These runs breaded teams that consists out of one goal-getter. E.g. a player that hits the ball into the goal. All the other players don't learn how to play soccer at all. Any way, this does not mean that I give up the project. Still many parameters could be changed, like the selection process, mutation rate, and last but not least the structure of the nets.

BILL ARMSTRONG STADIUM
Indiana University's commitment to excellence is evident by the facilities it provides to its athletic teams. Bill Armstrong Stadium is the permanent home of the IU soccer program. The complex is the finest collegiate facility in the nation, and was financed entirely by private contributions.
The complex has always been regarded as the finest college facility in the nation since it was first built in 1981. In the summer of 2000, the stadium received major renovations that will allow it to maintain its status as college soccer's premier venue. The renovations that took place in 1999 were the first of a two-phase project. This first phase included a new grass playing surface, the first upgrade since the field was constructed, along with relocation of utilities under the field to support a 5,000-seat, poured-in-place grandstand. The concrete grandstand includes the nation's most complete soccer press facility in the nation. The state-of-the-art press box includes seating for 50 members of the media, restrooms and a food service area. The stadium lighting was updated as well.

The Trinidad Amateur Football Association (TAFA) was formed on July 23, 1908, and First Division play in Port-of-Spain included such teams as Casuals, Clydesdale, Local Forces, and Shamrock. League play was conducted in front of the Grand Stand in the Queen's Park Savannah.
During each of the first seven years of First Class competition between 1908 and 1914, the League Shield winner was one of the three clubs: Casuals; Shamrock; or Local Forces. In 1915, play was suspended because of World War I. When play resumed in 1916, the Best Dark Virginia Cup was won by Queen's Park who repeated this feat in 1918 and 1919. Queen's Park also won the League Shield in 1919. In this decade, the TAFA began its efforts in expanding competition throughout Trinidad with the goal of producing a team to represent the country against other colonies in the Caribbean. The earliest such competition was believed to be 1919.

A History of Women's Soccer
Question - What do the Football Associations of, England, Holland and Germany have in common with China's Qing Dynasty (founded 1644)?
Answer - All four governing bodies at some stage banned women's football.

Surprising though it may seem in the light of the boom in women's soccer during the last decade of the 20th Century - and with the fourth Women's World Cup finals set for 2003 - the game was cripplingly held back in earlier times through the prejudice of male-dominated organisations.
The first known records of the game are frescoes of women playing football at the time of the Donghan Dynasty (AD 25-220). How far women's football had progressed before the Qing Dynasty came to power is not known, but it quite obviously never became the Sport of Qings.
Following the draconian ban it was not until the 1920's that football began creeping into China's school curriculum for girls. Fittingly in the context of the game's history, the first Women's World Cup was destined to be held in China in 1991 - and won by America, whose national team had played its first competitive match only six years earlier.
The old and new worlds of women's soccer were thus symbolically brought together - though not before further massive hurdles had been cleared during half a century of the game being played almost as an 'underground' sport.

Olympic Soccer Medalists
History
Soccer was supposed to be on the program for the first modern Olympics in 1896, but it was cancelled because no teams entered, although some players showed up. The sport officially entered the Olympics in 1900 and it's been on the program ever since. The Olympic stand against professionalism led directly to the creation of soccer's World Cup tournament. After several countries withdrew from the 1928 Olympic tournament because their professionals weren't allowed to play, the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) decided to hold its own quadrennial world championship, beginning in 1929. In 1984, the International Olympic Committee decided to allow professionals to compete, but only if they hadn't taken part in World Cup play, which still left out most of the world's best players. The rule was amended in 1992 to allow professional players under 23 years of age in the Olympics. Since 1996, each team has been allowed to have three professional players over 22. Women's soccer was added to the Olympic program in 1996.
