22. Snakes - General Care
Enclosure and Space Requirements As a general rule, snakes require relativelylittle space because of their limited and nonexertional activity.
http://www.caringtogether.com/exotics/snakes2.html

Enclosure and Space Requirements
As a general rule, snakes require relatively little space because of their limited and nonexertional activity. Generally speaking, the size of the enclosure should allow inclusion of certain required items (discussed below) and still allow the snake adequate space to stretch out and move about. Snakes will use both the horizontal and vertical space within their enclosure if provisions are made for this activity. Aquaria or other similar glass or Plexiglas-lined enclosures are usually most suitable because they allow optimum visualization of and safety for the occupant(s), and help to maintain desirable environmental temperatures and generally high relative humidity levels. Wire-lined enclosures may afford adequate visualization of the snake but certainly cannot contribute to the maintenance of desirable environmental temperature and humidity levels. Further, such enclosures promote injuries to the rostrum (nose and surrounding tissues) as snakes repeatedly attempt to "escape" through the wire mesh. Any enclosure used must have a secure top and be escape-proof. All hinges and locks should be secure. All snakes are potential "escape artists" and many (especially the California King snakes) can escape form almost any apparently secure enclosure.

Color Guide to Corn Snakes > Customer Review #1: Dated, but still an excellent primer on corn snake genetics

So many new corn snake color morphs have been developed since this book was first published that its coverage of the morphs that existed at the time seems a bit dated. Nevertheless, this book is still of considerable use to corn snake breeders, as well as anyone else interested in breeding for recessive traits, for its clear explanation of Mendelian rules of inheritance. Novice corn snake keepers ask too often the question of what you get when you breed this kind of corn snake with that kind; after reading this book, theyll be able to figure it out for themselves. Readers interested in descriptions of the latest corn snake morphs, and how theyre made, should consult The Corn Snake Manual by Bill and Kathy Love.

RitchieReptiles.com Owning Boa Constrictors is a major, long-term commitment and responsibility. Many owners dump Boas on animal shelters and reptile rescues, because they have grown too large and nobody wants to buy them. Some people keep the snakes in terrible conditions, with infections and parasites. Little space will not keep Boas from growing. It's possible to control growth by the diet, but lack of food can be dangerous for the Boa's health. Newborn Boas will be well in a small tank. Adults need a cage amounting to one square foot per foot in length with shelves to increase floor space and allow a warmer basking site. The Boa Constrictor cage should contain a hiding place, a water bowl for soaking, and something to rub on while shedding (rocks or dry sticks). Temperature should be kept about 85øF daytime and 80øF at night. A basking site should range 90-95øF. If the temperature is too cool health problems are guaranteed. Heat should be from heating pads, light bulbs, or covered thermostat with small opening that tails cannot enter. Newspaper is the easiest substrate. You can also use indoor carpeting or aspen. It's important to remove soiled substrate immediately and sterilize the water containers at each water change. The entire enclosure for Boa Constrictors should be sterilized and cleaned at least bi-weekly.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I made a new site in honor of my fish and to educate all new aquarium hobbyists. If you have time, please visit my new site, Something's Fishy . I started it on Christmas and finished it 2 days later. I recently added breeding info and goldfish facts. It seems to be doing much better than this site. ^.^ Goldfish Obituary December 19, 1999 By: Coolsnake Other News:
I would like to dedicate this update to my late goldfish, Fishy. The following is a tribute and obituary to him. Fishy
Color: Gold
Died: Dec. 19 @ 10:20 PM Fishy was a great fish. He has lived almost the longest of any of the fish I knew. Only one tank mate survives, Cozmo. Cozmo is taking the loss very emotionally. They say that fish don't have feelings, but I say they are wrong. I remember when he used to beg for food with Cozmo evey time I entered my room. He will be missed by me and Cozmo. May he rest in peace now. I hope he is swimming with the angels now. The tank will be forever lonely without him.
Burial services will be held in my backyard on the morning of Monday the 20th
