I am

I will follow the World Cup : "on the internet" Played 3, Lost 3 - 14 June 2002
Writing glorious words about a team that has been beaten three times in the last two weeks is not an easy task. How much nicer it would be to say: "lost two, won one" or at least "drawn one" as I hoped when thinking about this report before the last match. The first sixty minutes went well, we were one goal ahead but then, after a terrible mistake by our defender, the boat started to sink again. Deja vu...
It is not the bad performance of our team which hurts. Taking part at the World Cup is much more than could be expected from our boys. I would not make a tragedy from the notorious quarrel between the coach and the best player, resulting in the premature departure of the latter from Korea. Such things happen even in better teams, although the consequences may not be very positive for Slovenian football.
The expectations in my country before the Slovenian debut in the tournament were enormously high, and the players were worshiped even by those who are not really familiar with the basic rules of football. It seemed that the most popular game in the world had finally grown in the hearts of people from the Sunny side of Alps. But, nothing unusual, the euphoria was much too soon followed by a huge disappointment. And now, almost everybody blames the team for the failure. I know, one could say: 'but dear fellow Slovene, please be realistic and rather acknowledge the boys and particularly the coach for giving us an opportunity to support our country, albeit just for two weeks, in the World Cup!'

    6 Apr 2004

Market likely to balloon. Introduced just 10 years ago, electric kettles are still considered to be a relatively new item in Slovenia. The slow growth in sales is due partly to the general lack of knowledge of just how useful an electric kettle can be, although with the growing popularity of herbal tea, it shouldn't be hard to demonstrate the benefits of a really speedily made cup! Major players in the kettle market, each with a range of models and prices, are Philips and Tefal, while importers, distributors and retailers alike expect to see sales rise in the next few years. Those considering entering the Slovenian market are well advised to find a local distributor, be willing to invest in advertising and promotion, and be prepared to face increasingly tough international competition, at least initially. Philips among top brands.

... Mediterranean Guide Slovenia: Overview Slovenia, a green and diverse country between the Alps and the Mediterranean, boasts all the beauties of the OLD WORLD. In Slovenia you can ski in the morning and surrender yourself to the luxury of the Adriatic Sea in the afternoon. You can breakfast with herdsmen on the mountain meadow and end your evening in a richly stocked wine cellar at the edge of the Pannonian plain. You can travel through time all day in museums, castles, churches, and art galleries and enjoy the evening out in one of the Europe?s best casinos. Today you can delight in the ethnographic sights, tastes, and sounds of a traditional village celebration, and tomorrow you can satisfy your cultural cravings at a world- class cultural event.
Slovenia?s cities and towns offer more than history, monuments, churches, museums, and restaurants with delicious food and drink; they are also the venues of numerous events, from minor festivities only found on the local calendar to traditional world-renowned events. Our cities and towns not only offer the ancient cores where their life began millenniums ago but also serve as starting points for excursions into the immediate and more distant surroundings where many historical and natural sites wait to be discovered.

    http://www.snpj.com/cipka.htm
Cipka Lace The art of lacemaking spread from Italy, the Netherlands and Germany to the territory of Slovenia predominantly in the 17th century. Although in the past lacemaking was practiced in numerous towns and even rural areas, it struck the deepest roots in the old mining town of Idrija, reputed for its mercury mine. The improvements in mercury extraction technology, which were introduced in the 17th century, deprived many women of their source of income. And so they began to devote more and more of their time to making bobbin lace in a variety of patterns. Lacemaking soon became an important handicraft, ensuring a means of survival to many families who would hardly have been able to make ends meet with only a miner's salary. The lacemaking craft spread from Idrija to nearby and more distant places, and also became popular in many other parts of Slovenia. But in the centuries that followed, lacemaking survived mainly in Idrija and in certain parts of the Gorenjska, Notranjska and Littoral regions, while in others, mostly towns such as Ljubljana, it almost disappeared. All the "art" of Idrija lace (and thus Slovenian lace) is in the use of a special lacemaking technique and, most of all, in its orginial patterns. These have been given domestic names and are clearly distinguishable from other famous European styles.

"Life in the Alps" Film Review
As part of the International Year of Mountains 2002, CIPRA – Slovenia, the Institute for the Protection of the Alps in Ljubljana, is preparing a film review, which will be held at Slovenia's main Cultural and Congress Centre, Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana, from April 23 to 25, 2002. The review, entitled "Life in the Alps", is thematically linked to the Alpine Convention protocol on population and culture, and its media promotion.
The project is supported by the Slovenian Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, the Ministry of Culture, Cankarjev dom, Slovenian Television, and the Slovenian Cinématheque. The Mountain Association of Slovenia, the Triglav National Park Administration, the Audiovisual Laboratory of the Institute for Slovenian Ethnography at the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Faculty of Architecture of Ljubljana University are also taking part.
In March 2002, the selection committee will compile a three-day programm based on films submitted by various organizations, television companies and independent producers from all the Alpine countries responding to an invitation to be announced on the Internet in December. Slovenian Television will purchase the winning film for broadcast in Slovenia. This will serve to meet the UN, FAO and EU recommendations to promote and raise a national initiative for the issues that should receive the widest possible exposure during the International Year of Mountains, such as:
