Brief history of the Santa Eulalia Sharks
London Broncos Rugby League
unofficial message board
The Santa Eulalia Sharks Rugby League Tribe started it's life as a supporters group for the Fulham Rugby League Club and Kent/Southend Invictor(now extinct)in the early 1980's.It's founder members were named Kevin Martinez and Pedro Piñero who were very keen on Rugby League and they convinced their young friends to take an interest in the oval ball game although the sport had no history in Spain and could not be seen on television. The two boys found plenty of converts.A well wisher supplied the group with video tapes mainly of Australian matches and coaching video tapes. These tapes led to the popularity of the Balmain Tigers and other Australian sides but this never appeared to weaken the support for Fulham (now called London Broncos) The youngsters were also seen playing on the beach by Don Andrews(later Editor of Ibiza Now)and he interviewed them and wrote an article on them that appeared in Ibiza Now.There also followed a photo in Open Rugby and stories or snippets in Rugby Leaguer Review,Rugby League Week and they were mentioned in many Rugby League Fanzines. They were also mentioned in The Daily Majorca Bulletin when they wrote to it to express their hopes for the future of Rugby League in Spain. They told the Bullitin that they were passing around a card for all their supporters to sign wishing Balmain Good Luck and that they hoped 70 people would sign it.We now know that 110 people signed that card. We can find no mention of Sta.Eulalia Rugby League Club after 1991 although we do have a photo of a small group of children taken in 1992.Someone has said the team(?)was still around as late as 1995.We have no record of any article appearing in Spanish about the Sharks.

JONES SENDS CAMDEN TO VICTORY IN THE BOTTOM OF THE NINTH
Posted: 6/11/2004 Quincy Foster had two hits Camden, N.J. – Ryan Jones singled just out of the reach of Cole Liniak to score Dwight Maness from second base in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Camden Riversharks to a 3-2 victory over the Long Island Ducks at Campbell’s Field on Thursday evening.
Following a 28 minute rain delay, the Riversharks were able to get the scoring started in the bottom of the fourth inning as singles by Travis Anderson and Tony Rodriguez put runners on the corners with one out. Quincy Foster then beat out a potential double play ground ball to score Anderson and give Camden a 1-0 lead.

    Sharks!
Myths and statistics about the oceans' most fearsome creature
by David Johnson While Jaws and other movies and TV shows portray sharks as ferocious predators aggressively devouring innocent swimmers, nothing could be further from the truth. Sharks are not bloodthirsty maniacal killers. As the ocean's number one predator, sharks help maintain the balance of nature by reducing animal populations.
Four Deaths in 2003 Considering that tens of thousands of people come in close contact with sharks each year while swimming, surfing, or boating, numbers of shark attacks are negligible. In 2003, there were 55 confirmed "unprovoked" shark attacks in the world, resulting in 4 deaths. Attack Statistics According to the International Shark Attack File , between 1580 and 2003 there were 1,909 confirmed shark attacks around the world.

This site relates to scientific research aimed at increasing understanding of tiger sharks. Major goals of this research include determining movement patterns and habitat use of these predators.

TIGER SHARK RESEARCH PROGRAM
A project funded jointly by the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources and Sea Grant
The tiger shark, Galeocerdo cuvier Tiger sharks are captured by setting lines baited with fish market scraps, at dusk, just off Honolulu harbour. Lines are recovered at dawn the following day. Sharks caught are secured alongside a small boat, identified, measured and sexed, and a tissue sample is removed for genetic fingerprinting. Each shark receives a numbered identification tag and those smaller than 10ft are immediately released. Larger tiger sharks are fitted with acoustic transmitters (devices which emit ultrasonic beeps). These beeps are beyond the hearing range of both sharks and humans but are detectable with a hydrophone (underwater microphone). Transmitter equipped sharks can be followed by boat using a hydrophone to continually listen for these beeps. A single 'beer can sized' transmitter is surgically implanted in each sharks peritoneal cavity (the space containing the liver and other organs). During this operation the shark is turned upside down and immediately goes into tonic immobility (a trance-like state lasting approximately twenty minutes). An incision is made in the peritoneal wall, the transmitter is inserted and the incision sutured closed. The shark is released and followed for several days. Data obtained by tracking with boats is supplemented by using bottom monitors placed at different locations on the seabed. Bottom monitors are devices that continually listen for the uniquely frequency coded transmitters carried by larger tiger sharks. Monitors can identify each transmitter equipped shark, and record how long each shark stays in that area. Bottom monitors are regularly retrieved by divers so that recorded data can be recovered.
