Fernando Marques Penteado is a Portuguese/Brazilian artist who has worked in the fashion industry and has also directed several, community-based art projects. Significant among these was Prison Speech at Wandsworth prison, supported by the HM Prison Service, The Arts Council of England and Goldsmiths College. Marques Penteado initially became involved with the Prison Service through Fine Cell Work - a successful charity that enables prisoners to earn money by producing handworked soft furnishings, or samplers. But, rather than being commercially orientated the Prison Speech workshops were aimed at encouraging prisoners to express their emotional life in confinement.
