SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS
By Gerald L. Caldwell
Founder, Editor, Bible Believer's Ministries , Miami, FL USA (305) 372-9790 radical@iname.com
This study will be on the 7th Day Adventist. This cult began in the early 19th century by William Miller (1782-1849), who was a FALSE PROPHET! He predicted that the Lord Jesus Christ would return to Earth in glory on Mar. 21, 1844, and later on Oct. 22, 1844! Neither prophecy was fulfilled! Deuteronomy 18:20-22 "But the PROPHET, which shall presume to speak A WORD in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall WE KNOW the word which the LORD HATH NOT SPOKEN? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if THE THING follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD HATH NOT SPOKEN, but the prophet hath spoken it PRESUMPTUOUSLY: thou shalt not be afraid of him." The FALSE PROPHET is identified by speaking "A WORD" that does not come to pass. It does not matter how many times he's correct, it's how many times he's WRONG! Just ONE error is sufficient to make one a false prophet, regardless of whether he was correct 3000 times. When prophesying, the prophet is to bat nothing short of a 1.000. In other words, his prophesying MUST be accurate EVERY timenot 99.9% of the time. Therefore, William Miller was undoubtedly a FALSE PROPHET! Isaiah 8:20 "To the LAW and to the TESTIMONY: if they SPEAK NOT according to THIS WORD, it is because there is NO LIGHT in them."

Background:
The SDA church has always taken a special interest in health concerns: diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, etc. They are strong supporters of the principle of separation of church and state. They also promote religious liberty, and publish a periodical called Liberty The Church has about 5 million members worldwide, with a growth rate of about 7%. They have 825 thousand members and 4,348 churches in the US. They have about 52 thousand members in Canada. Theologically, they are very conservative. One main difference between the SDA church and a typical Evangelical church is that the SDA's hold religious services on the Sabbath (Saturday). The church's stand is that the Bible consistently condemns all homosexuality behavior as a sin. They have stated that gay and lesbian relationships are "obvious perversions of God's original plan." Gay candidates are not permitted to be ordained as pastors.
Some developments:
: SDA Kinship International, a gay-positive organization was founded. It is completely independent of the SDA church and has over 1000 members: gays, lesbians, their parents, friends and supporters. They believe that:

Home Quotes: God gave our first parents the food He designed that the race should eat. It was contrary to His plan to have the life of any creature taken. There was to be no death in Eden. The fruit of the trees in the garden was the food man's wants required. (1864) The diet of animals is vegetables and grains. Must the vegetables be animalized, must they be incorporated into the system of animals, before we get them? Must we obtain our vegetable diet by eating the flesh of dead creatures? God provided fruit in its natural state for our first parents. He gave to Adam charge over the garden, to dress it, and to care for it, saying, "To you it shall be for meat." One animal was not to destroy another animal for food. - (1896) Let our ministers and canvassers step under the banners of strict temperance. Never be ashamed to say, "No thank you; I do not eat meat. I have conscientious scruples against eating the flesh of dead animals. - 1901 Flesh was never the best food; but its use is now doubly objectionable, since disease in animals is so rapidly increasing. - 1902

Adventists
A group of six American Protestant sects which hold in common a belief in the near return of Christ in person, and differ from one another mainly in their understanding of several doctrines related to this common belief. They are, excepting the "Seventh Day Adventists" and the branch entitled "The Church of God" congregational in government. The sects of Adventists are the outcome of a religious agitation begun by William Miller (1781-1849) in 1831, after a minute study of the prophecies of the Bible. Testing the mysterious pronouncements concerning the Messias by a method exclusively historical , he looked for the fulfillment of every prophecy in its obvious surface reading. Every prophecy which had not been literally accomplished in the first coming of Christ must needs be accomplished in His second coming. Christ , therefore, should return at the end of the world in the clouds of heaven to possess the land of Canaan , and to reign in an earthly triumph on the throne of David for a thousand years . Moreover, taking the 2,300 days of the

Adventism
General Information Adventists are members of various Christian groups who believe that the Second Coming of Christ is imminent. Their millennial hopes (Millenarianism) were aroused by the preaching of William Miller (1782 - 1849). On the basis of a detailed examination of the Bible, especially the books of Daniel and Revelation, Miller predicted that Mar. 21, 1844, and later that Oct. 22, 1844, would be the day when Christ would return in glory and the Earth would be cleansed by fire, ushering in the millennium - a 1,000 year reign of righteousness and peace before the Last Judgment. When the time passed without event, many believers drifted away. The faithful remnant of Millerites coalesced into several religious bodies, the most important of which are the Seventh day Adventists and the Advent Christian Church. Leaders of the former group had been influenced by Sabbatarian Baptists; thus, in that denomination, Saturday rather than Sunday is kept as the Sabbath. Seventh day Adventists are noted for their millennialism and Sabbatarianism. BELIEVE

THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH
Mainly growing in New England, the Seventh-day Adventists became an official organization in 1863, with the name Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) chosen prior in 1860. Beginning strictly in North America, the Seventh-day Adventist Church quickly grew and soon its Ministries were reaching across the globe into Switzerland, India, Africa, China, the Pacific Islands, and Europe to name a few. With an initial membership of approximately 3,500, today the Seventh-day Adventist Church boasts over 8 million members worldwide. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is considered one of the fastest growing movements in the Christian world with 1 new member being baptized every 50 seconds. Another reason for the success of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is that it is organized in such a way that the individual is the controlling power. The power lies in the church membership with responsibilities given to an executive body. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is organized on four levels: 1. The local church.

Through the years Seventh-day Adventists have been reluctant to formalize a creed (in the usual sense of that word). However from time to time, for practical purposes, we have found it necessary to summarize our beliefs. This summary dates from 1980, and is taken from the book "Seventh-day Adventists Believe", Review + Herald Publishing Assn., c 1988.
Seventh-day Adventists Believe
The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In this Word, God has committed to man the knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the infallible revelation of His will. They are the standard of character, the test of experience, the authoritative revealer of doctrines, and the trustworthy record of God's acts in history. There is one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a unity of three co-eternal Persons. God is immortal, all- powerful, all-knowing, above all, and ever present. He is infinite and beyond human comprehension, yet known through His self-revelation. He is forever worthy of worship, adoration, and service by the whole creation. God the eternal Spirit was active with the Father and the Son in Creation, incarnation, and redemption. He inspired the writers of Scripture. He filled Christ's life with power. He draws and convicts human beings; and those who respond He renews and transforms into the image of God. Sent by the Father and the Son to be always with His children, He extends spiritual gifts to the church, empowers it to bear witness to Christ, and in harmony with the Scriptures leads it into all truth.
