Geography
Norway extends so far to the north that distances can be long. The drive from Lindesnes in the south to the North Cape covers about 2500 km. However, these great distances allow the visitor to experience dramatic variations in the landscape. The road network is well developed and the majority of the roads have a reasonably good standard. Bridges over deep fjords and tunnels under towering mountains shorten the journey, and as you emerge from a tunnel you can admire the stunning and unexpected views of the ever-changing landscape. Norway is one of the few countries in the world with fjords – deep indentations in the coastline formed by the scouring action of glaciers millions of years ago. The train is a reliable and exciting way to experience Norway, and from the comfort of a modern carriage you can watch the beautiful countryside unfold.
