Synergy uses cookies to improve performance by remembering that you are logged in when you go from page to page. If the cookie cannot be set correctly, then Synergy cannot determine whether you are logged in and a new session will be created for each page you visit. This slows the system down. Therefore, you must accept the Synergy cookie to use the system. What Gets Stored in a Cookie? Synergy only stores a session ID in the cookie, no other information is captured. In general, only the information that you provide, or the choices you make while visiting a web site, can be stored in a cookie. For example, the site cannot determine your email name unless you choose to type it. Allowing a web site to create a cookie does not give that or any other site access to the rest of your computer, and only the site that created the cookie can read it. THE SCOUTING REPORT: SEARCHING THE INTERNET USING SUBJECT INDEXES AND SEARCH ENGINES presented by Suzanne Cassidy cassidy_sl@mercer.edu Subject Indexes Subject indexes, or directories, organize Internet sites into categories of subject-specific information. Links to web pages are listed under each category. Vast amounts of information are available in hierarchical form for browsing. Some subject indexes include a search engine type option that enables you to search the contents of the indexing. Subject indexes may cover very broad, general information, such as Yahoo ( http://www.yahoo.com ), which is the largest directory with over 750,000 web sites (as of December, 1997). Alternatively, indexes may be subject specific in coverage, such as Findlaw ( http://www.findlaw.com ). As a rule, subject indexes are created by people, not computers, and frequently are enlarged by the submissions of the creators of web sites. Law-related subject indexes include: Findlaw http://www.findlaw.com Hieros Gamos http://www.hg.org

For decades non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, have played an important role in treating these conditions. Unfortunately, taking these drugs orally in the large doses required to alleviate the symptoms can cause serious adverse effects.
"Oral dosing of ibuprofen in large quantities for long periods, for example, can cause gastrointestinal bleeding and ulceration, liver and kidney damage, and some disturbances in the central nervous system. Moreover, the drug will only stay in the body for several hours after a single dose," UGA pharmacy professor H. Won Jun said. "Our technology has been to develop the formulation that can deliver the drugs through the skin more effectively and can release the drug into the body over a longer period of time.”
Jun's technique uses one or more melting point depressing agents to turn solid ibuprofen into an oily state at room temperature. He has achieved drug concentrations in the oil as much as 80 percent with this technique, a level unachievable by other methods.

Satisficing
Word: Word Starts with Ends with Definition In economics Economics is a social science that studies human behavior and welfare as a relationship between ends socialy required and scarce means which have alternative uses (Lionell Robbins, 1935). That is, economics is the study of the trade-offs involved when choosing between alternate sets of decisions, considering collective and individual benefits. Understanding choice by individuals and groups is thus central in economics. With scarcity, choosing one alternative implies foregoing another alternative; economists refer to the best alternative forgone by taking another choice as the opportunity cost. For instance, learning one skill implies time not spent learning another. In a market setting, scarcity is often quantified by price relationships.

H infinity
Word: Word Starts with Ends with Definition H or H infinity is a method in control theory In engineering, control theory deals with the behaviour of dynamical systems over time. The desired output of a system is called the reference variable. When one or more output variables of a system need to show a certain behaviour over time, a controller tries to manipulate the inputs of the system to realize this behaviour at the output of the system. Take for example cruise control. In this case, the system is a car. The goal of the cruise control is to keep it at a constant speed. So, the output variable of the system is the speed of the car. The primary means to control the speed of the car is the amount of gas being fed into the engine.

These little additions to your browser put a wealth of search options at your fingertips, and they make searching quick and easy. One caveat: Most of the toolbars require ActiveX, so you'll have to make sure your browser and firewall allow it. And most toolbars work only in Internet Explorer. But if you don't use IE, don't worry; we've got a couple of options for you, too. As an insider, you're entitled to one year of our digital format for just $9.99

New Internet Explorer holes causing alarm Future Watch by Gary Anthes APRIL 05, 2004 (COMPUTERWORLD) According to Prabhakar Raghavan, chief technology officer at Verity Inc., the "search and content management industry," of which Verity is a part, deals mostly with unstructured and semistructured information, not the transactional data in relational databases. He says most of the world's recorded information is unstructured data, yet it is less valuable to companies than the information in their relational databases. The reason: It is hard to extract unambiguous meaning from them. "What we need to do is take these bags of words and add to them various forms of structure," he says. He says the technology for doing this, "entity extraction" by which words are tagged as to whether they represent names of people, companies, geographical locations and so on, is now "fairly robust."
