Maximizing Your Customer Base:
A Multidimensional Model of Loyalty Abstract: The need to monitor and improve customer satisfaction has long driven demand for market research. In nearly every industry sector, competitive advantage is based on the ability to develop long-term relationships with high value customers. As corporations invest in managing towards satisfaction, research indicates that loyalty, rather than satisfaction, is the more closely linked to positive business outcome. In this article, we suggest a new framework for understanding customer behavior: RoperASW's Customer Loyalty ArchitectureSM profiles customer segments to identify and prioritize opportunities for investment in relationship strategies that deliver maximum return and sustainable competitive gain. Gaining and retaining a loyal customer is the key corporate challenge in a competitive marketplace. Long-lasting relationships with customers are the base upon which business sustain growth, profitability and market share. Satisfaction has become an economic necessity. A customer who receives what she or he expected is most likely to be satisfied. If the customer's expectations were exceeded, she or he may be extremely satisfied. Customer satisfaction of this kind is a requisite for a certain "type" of loyalty, but satisfied customers may not become truly loyal customers. Some of the reasons for the failure of satisfaction to translate into a deeper understanding of loyalty are unrelated to either satisfaction or affect.

Maximizing Storage
Show #551
More often than not the problem isn't too little space, it's too much stuff! Every home has potential storage space that goes to waste, and a second look at under-utilized space can often help you gain extra storage in unexpected places.
Make the Most of Your Kitchen
To maximize the efficiency of your kitchen pack it full of function by using existing space to your best advantage. Think beyond the individual cabinets, shelves and closets to every available inch. Start your planning process by searching for unused or underused spaces. Here the homeowners were able to create more storage by adding on to the top of the existing wall cabinets so that they reach the ceiling. Although high-rise storage is more difficult to reach, it can conveniently conceal infrequently used items.
Many times the pantry is a source of frustration in the kitchen. Often a pantry is packed with so much stuff that it becomes difficult to find items. To make the pantry more accessible keep shelves narrow or bring the pantry closer to you with a system of pullout trays and bins. Attaching racks to the inside of cabinet or pantry doors also boosts your storage options. Just be sure to allow enough clearance within your cabinets for the racks.
More Than Laundry
The typical laundry room is a real obstacle course often found with piles of dirty clothes strewn about, and, while a family message board and fold-down ironing board add to the function of this laundry room, storage is essential to make the space workable. To optimize the storage in this laundry room we built and installed 12-inch open shelving around the upper perimeter of the room, placed a shelf above the washer and dryer and constructed a narrow shelving unit which was then mounted on the wall to keep items accessible. The two clothes rods at varying heights provide a place to hang delicate items or those ready to be put away. Labeled storage containers were used to group small items while brackets were installed on the back of the fold-down ironing board to store brooms and mops.

Maximizing Closet Space
TIPical Mary Ellen : Episode TIP-454

There's more space in a closet than you think. Hang all short items on one end, and use the space to add a chest of drawers, bookshelf or even a second clothes rack.
Organizing expert Pam Hix points out useful ways to make the most of closet space.
  • First rethink what should and should not be stored in a closet. Should the tennis racket really be kept on the floor of a clothes closet? What about that box fan? Scrutinizing the contents of the closets should free up space by moving items to more appropriate storage areas.
  • Move empty hangers to one end of the closet to free up space in the middle.
  • In the good old days, only clothes appropriate to the season were kept in the closet. Off-season clothes were stored. Now people have far more clothes than in times past, and many urban apartment dwellers have little closet space and even less storage space. It's best to store seasonal clothes, even when closets are efficiently organized.

A Five Year Status Report January, 1998
    Mary E. Jackson

The 1998 ALA Midwinter Meeting in New Orleans, LA marks the beginning of the five year anniversary of the Association of Research Libraries' (ARL) North American Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery (NAILDD) Project
At the beginning of 1998, over 70 for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and project participate in the NAILDD Project's Developers/Implementors Group (DIG) and/or the ILL Protocol Implementors Group (IPIG). The DIG is the vehicle by which the NAILDD Project seeks to facilitate collaboration between libraries and a broad constituency of private sector organizations. The DIG is an effort on ARL's part to be proactive consumers. The DIG serves as a forum in which to communicate the library needs to the vendors who could potentially offer these services. ARL seeks a healthy competition in the ILL/DD marketplace and thus encourages all vendors to participate. The IPIG was formed in late 1995 to expedite implementation of the international standard for ILL communication.
This status report highlights and salutes the responsiveness of some of the more active DIG and IPIG members to the NAILDD Project's technical priorities. The sustained commitment of these organizations and the resources invested to achieve the Project's goals are recognized as key contributions to the future success of library programs and services.

Product : Sentry Spelling Checker Engine (Windows and Source SDKs) Version : Any The Sentry spelling engine is designed and built for high performance. This document contains some tips for making Sentry run as quickly as possible.
    • Open dictionaries (lexicons) as local files. Accessing lexicon files across a network can decrease performance, since network file access is many times slower than local file access, especially over congested networks.
    • Open dictionaries containing frequently used words first. Sentry searches for words in the order in which dictionaries are opened, and stops searching once a word is found. Opening a dictionary containing words that appear frequently (such as the of , and a ) first reduces the time required to locate these words and improves overall performance. This is what the "ssceam.tlx" (or "sscebr.tlx", etc.) files are for: They contain the words that occur most often, and therefore should be opened first.
    • Open dictionaries for one language at a time. The more dictionary files Sentry must search through, the longer the search will take, particularly when locating suggestions. Don't open the American and British English dictionaries together, for example.

Make sure that you know how to make a prefs file organize your collection
Sounds simple, but if you organize your collection into subfolders, that will improve load time as Andromeda will have fewer rows to draw on a single page. turn off displayNew
The displayNew preference tells Andromeda to scan folders looking for new files. If it finds any, it automatically marks all folders containing them as 'new'. If you have an especially large collection this can be noticably slow. displayNew is off by default in versions 1.7.1 and up, and is on by default in all earlier versions. useImageFiles
By default, Andromeda uses images stored as binary data within the script itself. You can gain an improvement by using normal image files.
  • download the image icon files
  • put them in the same folder with the script (the gifs are 'next to' the script)
  • set useImageFiles to true
  • if you want to put the images elsewhere, set imageFolderPath accordingly (ie /images/).

    Database searching
    Multiple alignments and database searching
Information about which residues are conserved and thus important for a particular family are crucial not only for the purpose of multiply aligning a set of sequences. Also in the context of identifying related sequences in a database this information is very valuable. Thus, a multitude of methods has been developed that aim at identifying sequences in a database which are related to a given family. Historically, the first such method had introduced the profiles described above in the context of multiple sequence alignment. Like in this application, profiles help in emphasizing conserved regions in a database search. Thus, a sequence that matches the query profile in a conserved region will receive a higher score than a database sequence matching only in a divergent part of an alignment. This feature is of enormous help in distinguishing truly related sequences. Algorithmically, profile searching simply uses the dynamic programming alignment algorithm for aligning a sequence to a profile on each sequence in the database. Of course, this is computationally quite demanding and much slower than the heuristic database search algorithms like BLAST or FASTA. Typically, the multiple alignment underlying the profile will describe a conserved domain which one expects to find within a database sequence. Therefore, in this context it is important that end gaps should not be penalized. Gap penalties for profile matching frequently vary along the profile in order to reflect the existence of gaps within the underlying multiple alignment. Through this mechanism one attempts to preferentially include new gaps in regions where gaps have been observed already. However, different suggestions exist as to the choice and derivation method for these gap penalties (Bucher, Taylor).

Searching by FFT convolution failed because of the CTF effect. Therefore, the slow searching by maximizing the real space correlation coefficient applied in the program. The program is parallelized to solve the speed problem. The magnification difference between the focal pair is also considered in the program by the scale-factor. Usage of the program:

We now recall that the original problem posed was to find the that maximizes when the input is . We now choose to consider as the DASSS data - a set of values generated from direct application of equation . There are a number of ways to exploit the DASSS data; we consider an efficient search of values here. We note that for data , if we assume a particular combination, only one value of can maximize . It is clear from inspection of equations through as well as figure that the highest value for a given source combination will only occur when the observed and match that predicted. In fact, an incorrect value of will produce a zero score. Therefore, the first step in searching is to solve for the value that produces this match. This may be done via:
for each possible combination. Now, to score the observed data against stored values of , we must normalize our observed data in the same way as the stored data. This can be done by:
which leads to as per our storage paradigm.
