Child Safety on the Information Highway
By Lawrence J. Magid

(c) 1998 National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
"'Cyberspace,' the 'Web,' the 'Net,' the 'Information Highway'" — Whatever The Benefits of the Information Highway The vast array of services that you currently find online is constantly growing. Reference information such as news, weather, sports, stock quotes, movie reviews, encyclopedias, and airline fares are readily available online. Users can conduct transactions such as trading stocks, making travel reservations, banking, and shopping online. You can find information about your local schools and government, read an out-of-town newspaper, or obtain vital health information. Millions of people communicate through electronic mail (E-mail) with family and friends around the world. Others use the public message board chat areas to make new friends who share common interests. You can even use the Internet to watch video and listen to audio programs produced by major media companies, businesses, organizations, and even individuals. As an educational and entertainment tool users can learn about virtually any topic, visit a museum, take a college course, or play an endless number of computer games with other users or against the computer itself.

Real crash test dummies, however, are true life-savers as an integral part of automotive crash tests. Even though cars get a little safer each year, and fatality rates are declining, car crashes are still one of the leading causes of death and injury in the United States. Photo courtesy NHTSA One of the reasons cars have been getting safer is because of a well-established testing program. In this article, you'll learn all about automotive crash testing, including crash test programs, ratings, dummies and future improvements. You'll be amazed at how much thought and preparation goes into making sure that safe cars are on the roads!

Warm weather marks the beginning of our peak season for food poisonings and food infections. Bar-B-Qued meats may contain undercooked portions and bacteria present in the raw animal foods can be easily transferred to the cooked by using the same spatulas and plates. Picnic food is often not kept cold enough to prevent bacterial growth, and adequate handwashing is difficult when eating at parks.
While most victims suffer only short-term (1-8 days) digestive upsets, some food poisonings and food infections can result in permanent nerve damage, kidney failure, or death. These eight rules for safe food will significantly decrease your chance of becoming ill.
The basic rules for keeping food safe apply year-round; they are just more difficult to adhere to during warm weather. Also, warm temperatures promote microorganism growth so there is less room for error during our outside dining season.

Food Safety
Microorganisms that cause illness (human pathogens) and their sometimes unusual entries into food can be alarming to consumers. This need not be. It is important to focus on the methods of prevention which are easily followed and inexpensive at the household level.

WELCOME TO A+ ELECTRICAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT
A+ Electrical Safety Equipment is a international distributor, specializing in personal protective equipment, commonly known as "PPE", that complies with OSHA regulations and NFPA 70 standards.
A+ Safety also offers complete lines of Fall Protection and Safety Matting. With over 30 years' experience in the electrical industry, we understand how important safety is in the workplace. Our mission is to provide our customers with quality electrical safety equipment products that help secure a safe working environment. Our wide range of products is available to help protect the assets that are most valuable to your business: your Employees and equipment. According to the U.S Department of Labor, "OSHA requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce employees' exposures to hazards when engineering the administrative controls is not feasible or effective in reducing these exposures to acceptable levels. Employers are required to determine all exposures to hazards in their workplace and determine if PPE should be used to protect their workers. Electricity is accepted as a source of power without much thought to the hazards encountered. Some employees, such as engineers, electricians, and people who do wiring, work with electricity directly, including overhead lines, cable harnesses, or circuit assemblies. Other workers, such as office workers and salespeople, work with it indirectly.

152. Nuclear Safety Culture: A High-Performance Work System
Explains the application of a safety culture to the nuclear industry, has articles, links and information on development of a safety culture.
http://nuclearsafetyculture.freeyellow.com
WELCOME !
I started this site in 1999 as part of my Masters dissertation on Work and Culture in the Nuclear Power Industry. At the time it was difficult to find information on Nuclear Safety Culture, so this site is meant to be a hub on the subject where interested parties can post papers and share ideas. The cost of maintaining this site is supported through purchases made through the Amazon.Com links on this site.
Nuclear Power as a Sociotechnical Work System
I view Nuclear Safety Culture as a dynamic work system that creates and reinforces High-Performance through the integration of Technological Risk Management, Culture Management, and Real Time Organizational Learning System. At its simplest form, it is the combining of Safe Worker Behavior and Safe Work Processes. At its pinnacle it is a synergistic relationship between Management, Labor, and the Public promoting Safety as "Shared Experience."
High-Performance in the nuclear industry essentially refers to the ability to manage Safety, Reliability, and Cost-Competitiveness. Safety in the nuclear power industry is widely defined to include conventional worker safety, minimizing radiological exposure, protecting the public, and reducing operational risks and uncertainty.

Welcome to PSI
Patient Safety Institute (PSI) is the healthcare industry's response to the need for a trusted, National Medical Information Exchange (NMIE) that provides real time access to critical patient information (with patient consent) at the point of care. The PSI NMIE operates similar to the way that the VISA network does. Both provide a representative governance structure and a communications network that provides real time access to data which resides in disparate information stores. The PSI NMIE focuses on providing healthcare providers access to information banks of existing medical information at the point of clinical interaction. In the PSI network, the patient plays the central role in the linkage between various data sources, as he/she not only authorizes the data sharing, but also has the ability to provide supplemental information. Unlike traditional data collection and distribution systems, PSI does not accumulate and store clinical information; rather it gathers data from existing sources of electronic data in a method similar to the way
