Single-most important thing
when applying for scholarships
With this experience under my belt, I would have to say that the single-most important thing when applying for scholarships is to follow up with a phone call. I know how tedious it can be if you send out applications to many different companies, and it can be hard to keep track of what you applied for. But keep in mind that it is most likely ten times as hard for the company offering the scholarship to keep track of all of the applications they receive! A simple phone call
f rom you will get you noticed, and you will be remembered by the scholarship committee... and you may even get the scholarship! Think of it in another way. Would you make one phone call if it meant someone was going to pay you $1000? I would! Granted, this is not guaranteed to work for all of the people all of the time or even some of the time. But I can say that your chances in obtaining the scholarship will most likely be greater if you DO make a phone call! Understand the requirements...

Though not as well-known as the Rhodes or Fulbright Scholarships, the Rotary Foundation is the largest private source of scholarships in the world. The Rotary Foundation seeks to promote international understanding through student exchanges: all scholarships are "ambassadorial," which means Rotary seeks candidates who would represent both the organization and their country well. The Foundation emphasizes enthusiasm, eloquence, and other qualities which would make you a good representative of your country over strict academic qualifications. Even if you do not have an outstanding academic record, you still have a chance at receiving this scholarship.

Bentley College is committed to providing our students the high quality education necessary for success in an increasingly globalized, technologically sophisticated, and information-intensive world economy. While classwork is the foundation of a strong liberal arts education, experiences outside the classroom are also valuable components of your college years. The Department of Behavioral and Political Sciences (BPS) has identified three such components that you ought to pursue as part of your overall education at Bentley: study abroad service learning and internships . During your years at Bentley, we encourage you to pursue opportunities to study abroad, to engage in community service, and to participate in an internship. Internships are valuable because they allow you to gain professional experience in a potential career area as well as give you an opportunity to apply what you learn in the classroom to a real job situation. Internships, which can be taken for credit, fulfill the Experiential Learning requirement of the BPS major in Public Policy and Social Change. The Department of Behavioral and Political Sciences (BPS) has created an internship resource bank – with online and offline content – containing a variety of information on internships and scholarships for all majors and minors in the Department (as well as other Bentley students). A companion offline resource bank is also available to students in the Department main office, Morison 109. The online resource contains information on various internships and scholarships, on organizations that offer them, as well as general information on the process of researching and applying for internships. The offline resource center, in addition, will store information on graduate schools; and public (governmental), private (business), educational, and non-profit organizations. The online data bank is organized, and can be searched, by career field (or field of interest) as well as geographic location.

    Applying for a Masters
"A masters thesis must be a substantial work generally based on independent research which shows a sound knowledge of the subject of the research, evidence of the exercise of some independence of thought and the ability of expression in clear and concise language." The degree of master by research is a supervised research degree. A masters programme will normally consist of a research project mutually agreed upon by a student, supervisor, Head of School and the Board of the Postgraduate Research School. At the conclusion of research the candidate should be able to show mastery of knowledge in the subject matter, some original contribution to this body of knowledge and competent literary presentation. If a school at UWA can provide appropriate supervision, facilities and resources for a research project in a particular field and the Board agrees that an appropriate research topic in that area can be developed then, subject to a candidate satisfying the eligibility requirements, an application for a place in the masters programme can be made.
