Vibrio cholerae non-O1 on Blood Culture, Saskatchewan
Introduction Vibrio cholerae can be divided into three main sub-types: O1 toxigenic, O1 non-toxigenic, and non-O1 strains . The O1 toxigenic strains, such as the El Tor biotype, have been historically associated with large outbreaks of classic cholera symptoms internationally. They produce an enterotoxin responsible for profuse watery diarrhea . The O1 non-toxigenic strains have been associated with shellfish along the Gulf Coast of the United States . The non-O1 strains generally do not produce the enterotoxin (although some strains do) and are generally only associated with sporadic and rare outbreaks of diarrheal illness . These organisms are increasingly isolated in Canada from residents with no history of travel outside the country V. cholerae non-O1 are found in water sources worldwide . In North America, cases have been primarily associated with consuming raw oysters . Non-O1 may be enteroinvasive (O1 toxigenic V. cholerae

Saskatchewan Cultural Tours
Country Fairs
Tradition runs deep in Saskatchewan .. and nothing is more of a tradition than attending a country fair. From pie baking competitions to showing prize-winning livestock ... from gymkhana competitions to chuckwagon and chariot races ... it's a local tradition you won't want to miss.
A rodeo is best described as a day packed with excitement! Bronco and bull riding, team penning, calf roping and barrel racing are just a few of the unbelievable events that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The day of small local rodeos almost disappeared, but they are back "with a vengeance".
Native pow wows
Saskatchewan is rich in aboriginal culture and the best place to witness this is at a Pow wow celebration. The colors and beauty of the traditional dance costume combined with the motion and beating drums create a breathtaking event you won't soon forget.

Cultural College Opened In Traditional Ceremony
SASKATCHEWAN INDIAN APRIL 1976 v06 n24 p08 A traditional Indian ceremony Wednesday afternoon, April 21, marked the official opening of the Saskatchewan Indian Cultural College and the new Saskatchewan Indian Community College. The events highlighted the second day of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian All Chiefs' conference at the Bessborough Hotel in Saskatoon. The ceremony was also the official kick-off for Treaty 6 Centennial and was also used to officially open the Sarain Stump Art Gallery located at the Indian Art Centre. More than 200 persons, including Chiefs; band delegates; M.P.'s; Department of Indian Affairs officials; out-of-province Indian leaders; watched the ceremony performed by Indian elders. Other ceremonies were to have taken place at the University of Saskatchewan, but rain altered the schedule. One of the highlights during the ceremony was the presentation of pipes to each of the 69 Chiefs, and also the presentation of pipes, headdresses, and Cree names by the elders to the four initiators of the colleges. The four were: FSI Chief Dave Ahenakew, "Sun Walker"; FSI Vice-President Solomon Sanderson, "Top Sky Child", Cultural College Director Albert Bellegarde, "Morning Dancer", and Rodney Soonias, "Eagle Child". Also during the ceremony, presentations were made by the Ontario delegation to the Indian Cultural College. Marylou Fox from the Ojibway Cultural Foundation presented a scroll and sweetgrass to Cultural College Director, Albert Bellegarde. Chief Debagisse from Westbay, Ontario, presented a blanket made by the ladies from the Cultural Foundation College, while Chief Jim McGregor presented a painting done on hide.
