For the past twenty-five years, this non-profit corporation delivered services to support First Nations education, art and cultures, as well as to broaden the cultural awareness of First Nations people. The Center continues to work to achieve this mandate of providing quality and professional services to First Nations communities. The new era for the SICC is an introduction of a Keeping House that will display paintings and artifacts from our First Nations people. 48. Virtual Saskatchewan - Aboriginal Culture
A sixth aboriginal group is the Metis Nation of saskatchewan, people of North AmericanIndianEuropean descent. Aboriginal culture is fascinating and rich.
http://www.virtualsk.com/contact_us/aboriginal.html
For thousands of years before Europeans set foot in what is now Saskatchewan, aboriginal people made this land their home. Many of the unusual place-names in Saskatchewan are derived from First Nation languages. "Saskatchewan", for example, is taken from the Cree for "swift-flowing river." Today, our province is home to five First Nations peoples: Cree; Saulteaux; Dakota-Sioux; Assiniboine; and Dene. A sixth aboriginal group is the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan, people of North American Indian-European descent. Aboriginal culture is fascinating and rich. And it's a subject of growing interest, in no small part because people in developed nations are recognizing the need to respect and preserve their natural inheritance, a hallmark of traditional aboriginal belief. Virtual Saskatchewan will introduce you to engaging aboriginal figures from the past and present, delve into the tradition of story-telling, pass along some enchanting myths, and take you back a few thousand years to show you how the Northern Plains Indians lived in an area that's now Saskatchewan's biggest city. Check out the stories below and follow the link for more. In the meantime, here's a recipe for "bannock", the traditional, simple, and very popular Cree bread.

Federal Support for Culture in Saskatchewan Second-Lowest in the Nation
Statistics Canada reports that the federal government contributes less to Saskatchewan culture, per capita, than any other province except British Columbia. In 1997-98, we received $34 per person in cultural funding. This is below the national per capita average of $89, and well below the $113 per person Quebec receives. Despite hefty federal cuts, provincial budgets for the arts stayed the same, while municipal funding has actually increased. Back to PaperCuts Home Contact SPG About This Site ... Search

54. Cultural Native: Ecotourism And Art In Saskatchewan
Welcome World Traveller To Our Website! The use of Medicinal plants and herbsremains as a way of life in the Native culture of Northern saskatchewan.
http://www.culturalnative.com/
Welcome World Traveller To Our Website! The use of Medicinal plants and herbs remains as a way of life in the Native Culture of Northern Saskatchewan. Traditionally, our people relied on Nature to provide the remedies for many ailments. These ways are still in use and help to ensure the health of us, in a holistic manner, respecting the Mental, Emotional, Spiritual and Physical aspects of our being. Medicine Walks are offered to allow for those interested to gain further knowledge in the importance of retaining this knowledge. We, Rose and Ric Richardson, continue to use the knowledge of our Heritage, and pick numerous medicines, which we consider Gifts from our Creator. Rose is quite knowledgeable about the local plant life, and their Medicinal uses. Ric assists with this work, and is an artist, mainly carving with Moose Antler and Wooly Mammoth Ivory. We are currently renovating an historic railroad station, to be the home of our Art Gallery as well as a lunch stop, with excellent coffees, for travellers to our area. To further educate and entertain our visitors, there is a wide variety of antiques and memorabilia on display, which help to give a "postcard" view of life in the North, over many years. From it's initial roots in the Fur Trade in 1782, Green Lake has come a long way in the history of Saskatchewan, Canada, and the Metis people, at least in part due to it being the third oldest community in Saskatchewan, and because it is located at the "Gateway" to Northwestern Saskatchewan. Staying at our RV park will allow you to further explore the numerous recreational opportunities that our region offers.

55. Northern Saskatchewan Heritage Site
Two seemingly incompatible enthusiasms characterise the North as it faces the millenniumthe onslaught of technology and a revival of Traditions and culture.
http://www.kayas.ca/
T wo seemingly incompatible enthusiasms characterise the North as it faces the millennium: the onslaught of technology and a revival of Traditions and Culture. Historically the Heritage and Culture of Aboriginal people have been woven closely together. On this site we explore our people and their communities, our past, and our present through the use of technology. The people of the North believe that we cannot understand others before we have genuinely listened to them and know of their ways. We must recognise that we will never understand others until we have learned something of their Heritage and Culture. It is in this spirit that we bid you welcome to learn of ours.

http://www.stf.sk.ca/teaching_res/library/teach_mat_centre/tmc/e11415/e11415.htm
To meet the need for instructional resources that incorporate the foundational objectives for technological literacy, teachers were invited to submit units in which technological literacy was a focus. Twelve units were selected and the writers were invited to a two and a half day writing workshop, sponsored jointly by the Department of Education and Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation, to polish their units for publication.
Teacher Note:
Throughout the sample units, the following symbols are used to refer to the Common Essential Learnings: C Communication CCT Critical and Creative Thinking IL Independent Learning N Numeracy PSVS Personal and Social Values and Skills TL Technological Literacy
INTRODUCTION
This unit of study was developed for use in a grade four classroom, and combines the following required areas of study: language arts, social studies, drama and dance. This unit can take from four to eight weeks to complete, depending on the interest of the students and the resources available.
The language arts component combines both literary (Aboriginal Legends and Myths) and historical contexts. The context for the social studies component is historical - the story of the Plains Indians and the Woodland Cree before Europeans came to Saskatchewan.
