Navigation commands can be carried out in several ways:
  • Command line - the command can be typed in the command box at the upper left of the screen, or window-specific commands can be typed on a command line (invoked using Tools/Options/Preferences/View in the SAS menu). This method tends to be used less frequently because of the ease of use of the other, newer, ways of navigating SAS windows.
  • Pull-down menus - invoked by left-clicking on a menu heading. Different menu options are available, depending on which window is activated.

Applied Statistics and the SAS Programming Language > Customer Review #1: excellent guide to useful applications of SAS

SAS is and data management and statistical analysis tool that is extremely popular in industry especially in medical device and pharmaceutical companies. SAS manuals are very good at providing users who have some statistical knowledge with guidance toward the use of various porcedures. Statistical texts often provide users of statistical methods with the necessary basic knowledge. However there are few texts that do both. A trend is developing to introduce basic and advanced statistical methods illustrated through the use of statistical software (particularly SAS). This book does a great job of presenting many applied problems and demonstrating the implementation of the analysis in SAS.
Applied Statistics and the SAS Programming Language > Customer Review #2: an excellent SAS intro One of the most heavily used reference books in my office...this is very well written for a programming book. The authors use case examples for illustrating the different programming techniques, which makes it very easily understood by the layman. If you have a basic understanding of statistical techniques such as ANOVAs and t-tests this book will allow you to use SAS fairly easily.

SAS Programming by Example > Customer Review #1: Decent book

This book needs introductory knowledge of sas. The content borders on the edge though. It lacks on a couple of key points such as ODS, Macros and Proc Report which are very essential in a real-world situation. I read this book and the little sas book cover to cover. The little sas book would beat this to pulp. Definitely needs a revised edition.
SAS Programming by Example > Customer Review #2: Too simplistic for many SAS users This book might be great for someone who has never used SAS before, and has also never used any kind of programming language at all. For just about everyone else, this book is simply too simple. Im not a SAS guru by any means, but there was absolutely nothing in here that I hadnt already picked up in a few months of playing around with SAS.

    SAS Applications and Links
Using SAS on VET SAS is a powerful statistical program, but requires a knowledge of its syntax and programming structure. If you are a novice, your best bet is to begin by going through the Introduction to SAS link. This page will provide an indepth development of both the syntax and different elements required to run a SAS command file and produce the desired analysis. Once having an understanding of the program, SAS can be employed in multiple ways on the VET server. Three will be highlighted here: Batch Mode, Interactive, and text-mode Interactive. Batch Mode Batch mode SAS uses a previously created command file or program and runs its in the background producing both a log file and an output file. On the VET system a number of editors are available to create command file programs, Pico, aXe, Gnuemacsthese are detailed on the previous page under VET applications. Once a command file is created and saved, the program can be run in SAS by simply typing sas and then the name of the program at the VET prompt. Using an example program entitled statistics, batch mode SAS would look like: SAS would then run the program and produce two other files, statistics.log and statistics.lst. Here statistics.log reflects the log of the program statistics detailing how SAS reads the program and identifying any errors in the program. Statistics.lst reflects the output of the program statistics. Batch mode SAS is easily run through file listing type programs. By typing sas after the desired file, the SAS program will be envoked and the command file run.
