A place for rescued farm animals and learning...
(photo: Farm Sanctuary) "Family farms are being replaced with large-scale factory farms, where animals are treated like unfeeling commodities and subjected to institutionalized abuse. That's why Farm Sanctuary was formed."
That's a direct quote from one of the most progressive thinking organizations in the movement, Farm Sanctuary. Farm Sanctuary, and a few others like it, are in the forefront of the movement to wage effective campaigns to stop farm animal cruelty. In addition, related issues like "Downers", anti-veal", and the recognition of animals as "Sentient Beings" are being fought over in addition to their obvious promotion of vegan lifestyles.
Ecodense.com is glad that places like this and the people that run them exist! KEY ORGANIZATIONS INVOLVED: Here are some farm sanctuaries and organizations involved in ending animal abuse and factory farming: FARM SANCTUARY

Wildlife Goa Sun, Sand, Sea.... Goa is a state which is gifted with incredible natural beauty; from her beaches and gently rolling hill to her vegetation and animal life. To protect some of this natural beauty from rush of modern development, goahas set aside four wild-life sanctuaries nested in the wooded areas of in-land Goa. The rich, varied and vibrant avenues available to nature lovers, or bird-watchers, or wildlife. Together wildlife cover an area of 755 square km, or around 60 per cent of forest area and 20 per cent of the geographical area of the state. Though Madei and Netravali have been notified, they have not been taken over by the wildlife wing from the territorial division.
Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary Up in the lush foothills of the Western Ghats, Bondla is good place to see S Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary On the western tip to the island of Chorao along River Mandovi, migratory and local birds inhabit the mangroves. These organisations write letters refusing funding to volunteers who are giving all their time and energy to do spay/neuter-return, clean up vomit, nurse and feed cats, fence gardens, etc. Volunteers eager and dedicated, who's tiny incomes are the limiting factor to the number of cats they can help. Isn't this exactly where the money should be sent ?
Find out how many people are being paid a salary by the organisation you send donations to.
Ask what these employees do while at work and how much they are paid.
Also, ask how much each named director is paid, and any others "executives" or others. Ask them for the name and address of people who's efforts were mentioned, without their address, in their publicity. Contact those people and ask them how much money that organisation sends them. All year round, cats are abandoned at SPA fur-pound "refuges" where cats are declared "unhomeable" after 5 days and destroyed. Even very pretty ones are killed because so very rarely is an adult cat adopted.

National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries
The jungles of Sri Lanka abound in a variety of wildlife, which is surprising for an island of its size in the tropics. From ancient days the elephants and peacock from the Sri Lankan jungles were prize exports to the Kingdoms of East and West. But apart from these well known examples of the fauna, a visit to the Sri Lankan jungles is to enter a whole new world where nature has largely stayed still. There are four majour national parks .Of these the best known is Ruhunu National Park,at Yala ,in the deep South of the island. The other well known national park,at Wilpattu ,is at present closed due to the prevailing conditions in the North of the island. There are also two other national parks at Inginiyagala and Udawalawe Sri Lanka has a rich and exotic variety of wildlife and a long tradition of conservation rooted in its 2,230 year old Buddhist civilisation. The following are the most important sanctuaries in terms of attractions, accessibility and availability of facilities. Animal Sanctuaries
The animals to be seen in Sri Lanka's national parks include elephant, leopard, sloth bear, sambhur, deer and monkeys, wild buffalo, wild boar (pig), porcupine, ant-eater, civet cat, jackal, mongoose, loris (unique to sri Lanka) several varieties of lizards, squirrels, reptiles and amphibians. Each park however has its own specialities.

They are fed, their medical needs are attended to, and they have the company of their fellow pigs/cows/cats/etc. Some sanctuaries are listed below. Pawprints' Guide to
Central Virginia Animal Organizations This web page began as a personal bookmark list that I used while working as a volunteer at my local animal shelter. While my volunteer career has taken another direction (see this ), so many people have found this page useful that I am committed to maintaining this list of animal-related organizations in my area, in order to assist local pet owners and would-be pet owners in finding the resources they need. Thank you very much to everyone who has emailed me over the past few years to help me keep this page as up-to-date as possible. Please Note: This list is for informational purposes only. Inclusion on this list does not imply my endorsement. In fact, my only contact with 99% of these organizations is by their email request to be listed. I am not a current shelter volunteer. If you are looking for a pet, try Petfinder . Many of the shelters and rescues below are members! If you know of a local organization that should be listed here, or if you have any updates or corrections, send e-mail to pawprints@virginia.edu
