    Research
Key Research Topics: tectonic evolution of the North Sea, the Atlantic Margin, the Caledonides and SE Asia.
My interest in the tectonic evolution of the Viking Graben, the Central Graben, the southern North Sea and the Atlantic Margin stems from work carried out while in industry, with industrial sponsors and as a result of supervising numerous M.Sc. projects. Particular points of interest are salt tectonics, the role of basement lineaments in controlling basin evolution, the effects of the oblique reactivation of pre-existing structures during regional extension and inversion and the development of fault seals in hydrocarbon reservoirs.
Detailed structural analysis of the Sumatra Fault Zone in Indonesia has been combined with studies of the sedimentary basins in the Sumatra back-arc, the Gulf of Thailand and onshore Thailand to evaluate the relative contributions of strike slip deformation and extensional tectonics in basin evolution on the continental margin and on the periphery of the India-Eurasia collision zone.
