Courses Calendar Methods Our Fleet ... How to Enroll Join our Team Sailing is many sports in one, and can be pursued in as intense or casual a manner as you choose. At Annapolis Sailing School our goal is to provide a safe, enjoyable introduction to recreational sailing for the whole family. Our approach is low key, relaxed and tailored to make your introduction to sailing a fun experience. The objective of our powerboat courses is simply stated: our graduates will be competent and safe powerboat operators, who possess basic operating skills and appreciate the joys of boating. New boat owners find the instructional program to be comprehensive, rewarding, and, most importantly, a tremendous confidence builder. KidShip Sailing School is a children-only sailing instruction program geared for young sailors-to-be ages 5 to 15 years old. KidShip has taught over 3500 young sailors their ropes on the Chesapeake Bay. Not only are these boats safe and comfortable for "new fish," they also challenge our more advanced sailors.
Kidship is licensed and inspected as a day camp by the Maryland State Health Department to guarantee your child's safety.

Contact Us Sailing for all! Sailing is a sport which people with disabilities can enjoy as a leisure recreational activity or as a competitive high performance endeavor. Due to assistive technology, people with disabilities can enjoy cruising or competition on a level playing field with able-bodied individuals. Consequently, wheelchairs and disabilities are left on the dock while sailors enjoy the independence and freedom possible when sailing. What better way is there to spend a nice warm afternoon during the summer The exciting news is that each year, more clubs, camps and community centers "join the fun" in introducing and promoting sailing to people with disabilities. It is very likely that sailing opportunities exist in your community already. If not, there may be mobile outreach programs which can come and visit your region to get things going! What you will find once you get involved is that sailing is one of the most accessible forms of recreation and sport on the planet. It is an affordable way for anyone to enjoy and reap the benefits of outdoor activity! In most programs, the Canadian Yachting Association’s (CYA) Learn to Sail (LTS) coaches and LTS levels are used to ensure skills are taught properly in a safe and rewarding environment. Boats used include (but are not limited to) the Martin 16, the Access Dinghy, and Sonar.

SECTION THREE - RECREATIONAL SAILING
3.01 Where does the club sail?
The club keeps its boats on Saratoga Lake, which is about 30 minutes north of Troy.
3.02 What type of boats does the club sail?
The club owns 7 420's and 5 Force 5's. The 420 is a racing boat that is meant for 2 people. It is about 14 feet long and has a mainsail and jib. The Force 5 is a 14 foot one person boat with only a mainsail.
3.03 What do I need to sail?
Since equipment is limited, members are encouraged to bring their own lifejackets, gloves, wetsuits, etc. The club does own some of these items which are available to paid members. Boats, sails, hardware and such are owned and available through the club to paid members.
3.04 How do I get to Saratoga?
There is no public transportation, or school transportation, to Saratoga Lake from RPI. On weekends there is usually a carpool system to get people up to the lake. During the week it is usually up to the member to find a means of getting there. Members with cars are encouraged to bring others with them, and notify other members when they are going up.
3.05 When are we allowed to sail?

Philippe Kahn at the helm of his 77' yacht Pegasus in the 2002 Pacific Cup. Harken/McLube: What first attracted you to competitive sailing?
Kahn: Performance, teamwork, skills and being out on the open ocean. Harken/McLube: What attracted your kids? How did you get them interested or Involved in sailing? Kahn: In our family we do things together: windsurfing, snow-boarding/skiing and sailing. We focused on fun boats to sail always. After surfing and windsurfing, the first boat that Shark learned how to sail was a Hawaiian sailing canoe that we sailed in the Molokai Channel extensively. Basically it's a high performance beach catamaran that can sail over the reef because it is steered with a paddle and doesn't have a fixed rudder. In the 20+knots trade-winds and the big waves, it was a huge challenge and Shark really got the hang of it by the time he was 12 years old. Then we also crossed the Pacific together three times. The first time he was 11 years old and we raced in Transpac 2001 and beat the full-on Pyewacket with our 11- year- old crew member. Shark was hooked. My older daughters love windsurfing.

11 June 2004 home subscribe to YW latest news ireland challenge ... contact us Drink sailing The RYA is aware that the subject of breath testing for recreational boaters is an emotive subject for all concerned, whether they go afloat under power or sail. Opinions vary from applying the proposed regulations to all craft regardless of speed or size, to not bringing the proposed regulations into force at all.  It is important that all concerned voice their opinions, either through the press or otherwise, and also respond to the DfT consultation. The RYA clearly does not condone anyone being in charge of a private recreational vessel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. However, it is important that we keep this matter in perspective and remain focussed on the main issues, which include the issues of enforcement and the Government's intent behind legislation. The debate concerning breath tests for professional mariners has been going on for over 15 years, commencing with the inquiry into the "MARCHIONESS" disaster in 1989, the subsequent wider inquiry into river safety by John Hayes and the Marine Safety Agency/ Tavistock Institute Research Report entitled 'Alcohol and Drug Abuse Aboard Ships'.
