Overview: This lesson introduces U.S. students to natural hazards that occur across their country and in their home region. Students will learn where tornadoes hurricanes earthquakes volcanoes , or severe thunderstorms are likely to occur and will find out which type of event is most likely to happen near their home. They will practice some safety steps and will make signs to educate other kids and adults about these precautions. Before beginning the lesson, determine which natural disaster is most likely to occur in your area: tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, or severe thunderstorms. Then locate a list of prevention and safety steps for this type of disaster. FEMA for Kids will be helpful.

contains lessons for teaching children about cyber safety and polite behavior while using the Internet Overview Lessons Follow-up E-Man Saves E-Mail ... Return to the top Lessons: The three lessons presented in Practicing Good Cyber Netiquette are intended to be integrated into elementary school lessons on Stranger Danger. Hopefully the children will share what they have learned with their older siblings, parents and friends. The lessons use a number of Disney online resources. They are web pages outside the FCPS network. FCPS does not control the content or relevancy of these pages. To complete the lessons listed below, the students will need a computer with Internet access. Please note, the user may be prompted to download Shockwave and RealPlayer in order to make the movies and sounds play in the Cyber Netiquette Comix series work. Lesson One In the first lesson children learn that passing on personal information to people while using a chat room can lead to serious problems. Since chat rooms are full of "virtual" strangers who may use the information in harmful ways, children need to be made aware of the potential risks they take when using chat rooms. Lesson Two In the second lesson children learn to never open e-mail from people that they do not know. They need to ask their parents' permission before opening attachments that may be a part of any e-mail message because some attachments contain computer viruses that may do harm to their computer system. They also learn to notify their parents and their ISP when they do receive unwanted messages.

IMPORTANCE AND NEED OF US NUCLEAR CAPABILITY
Simply stated; US nuclear capability is necessary to maintain a deterrent to nuclear war. Because of the importance to national security, nuclear weapons are a critical national resource. They require special protection from hazards and threats because of their awesome destructive power and the grave consequences of an unauthorized detonation. Protecting these weapons and ensuring the safety of people and property are of paramount importance. The purpose of the Nuclear Surety program is to achieve safety consistent with operational readiness. The goals of the program are to maintain our record of no uncommanded nuclear yields, to reduce the number and minimize the effects of accidents, incidents and deficiencies.
