Fern Rabinowitz, Library Media Specialist Mrs. Rabinowitz has been at Tolland Middle School since 1986. Prior to coming to TMS, she worked as a library paraprofessional at Tolland High School for six years, and as librarian at Vernon Center Middle School for one. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and got her master's degree in Library Science from the University of Rhode Island. She lives in Tolland and loves to read, hike, and play golf. Photography is another hobby - her favorite subjects are closeups of flowers and her grandson, Justin. Mrs. Rabinowitz is an avid sports fan, rooting for the L.A. Dodgers, the N.Y. Giants, and, most importantly, the UConn Huskies. You can often run into her at UConn soccer, football, and basketball (both men and women's) games. She has also been known to write an occasional rhyme or two, particularly when books are overdue. Peggy Cass, Library Media Specialist This is Mrs. Cass’ first year at Tolland Middle School and Birch Grove Primary School. Mrs. Cass has worked as a Media Specialist in Omaha, Nebraska and as a Children’s Librarian in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. She is a native of New York City and a graduate of Lehman College in the Bronx. She will receive her Masters of Technology in Education from Lesley College in Boston this January. Mrs. Cass returned to New England to live closer to her two grandchildren, Cameron and Faith. Even though she is not a sports fan, her entire family roots for the NY Yankees, the NY Giants and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. She is an avid reader and enjoys golfing and biking during the summer.

The Lifespan/Tufts/Brown Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) is a joint research effort between Tufts and Brown Universities and their affiliated hospitals and centers. The CFAR is part of a national program begun by the National Institutes of Health in 1988. There are currently 19 Centers for AIDS Research (CFARs) located at academic medical centers throughout the U.S. The Lifespan/Tufts/Brown CFAR has brought together all senior AIDS investigators at the Tufts and Brown Universities and their affiliated hospitals in a user-friendly structure which has been successful in supporting on-going research among active AIDS investigators and in stimulating new AIDS research by young investigators and by others who had not previously been involved in this research area. Besides the extensive efforts in Southeastern New England, the leadership has expanded the scope of international studies through the training of international collaborators and collaborative research at international sites. CFAR Core Services are available to support HIV/AIDS research to all Tufts University and Brown University faculty members who hold the rank of assistant professor or greater. The full range of research disciplines including behavioral science, basic science, clinical research and prevention science are supported by the CFAR.
