The Revolution in Greenhorn on the Frontier
Set in seventeen seventy-three Pennsylvania, Harry and Sukey's story unfolds against the political climate that formed the foundation for the Revolutionary War. The work depicts the territorial struggles between Pennsylvania and Virginia, presents discussions of British versus American government, and mentions "radicals like Sam Adams and James Otis," and "the great tea boycott." All of these references, along with many others, give a clear sense of the great changes that are about to come and establish Greenhorn on the Frontier as a useful and exciting tool for examining the beliefs, hopes and dreams of the common people as America embarked upon its battle for independence.
The Revolution in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania served a critical role during the Revolutionary War. In the Western part of the state territorial disputes between Pennsylvanians and Virginians raised questions of independence and governance. In the east Philadelphia was serving as the fledgling nation's governmental center; the First Continental Congress met in the city in 1774 and the Declaration of Independence itself was signed there in 1776. George Washington and his troops trained at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania during 1777 and 1778. Additionally, Battles were waged in Brandywine, Germantown, and Whitemarsh. The following links provide more information about Pennsylvania during the Revolution...

The easiest way to find out your ten facts now that you are already on the net is to read some of the vast number of pages and sites about the topic. To start your work you can read this story of the Revolution written by Mr. Drew.
France in the 18th century (1700s) was the most powerful and rich country in Europe. However it was also the worst run and the least well organised. It had a government system that had not changed for centuries. All the power was supposed to be in the hands of the King, but by the 1770s the king had really lost the ability to run the country. The system had worked when there was a strong king in power, as had been the case with King Louis XIV at the start of the 18th century, but in 1774 King Louis XVI came to the throne and he lacked the intelligence or personality to control the government. In fact it could be said that nobody could really control France by the 1770s. The nobility had a lot of power locally over their peasants through the feudal system, but they had no role in the government of the country. The church had a lot of local power through the feudal system and the influence that religion had in the strongly Catholic countryside, but again there was no official role for the church in the government. The poor and middle classes in France were simply irrelevant to the government. They paid all the taxes but had no rights either in law or politics.

book reviews Read a good book lately? Tell us about it! Our country's founders
placed a high value on education. It was their determination that only a familiarity with history and government machinations by citizens at large could prevent tyranny by an elite governing party. Further, they knew that only educated men and women could fuel an economy. Lady Liberty is most concerned
over a public education system that places less value on knowledge than it does on self-esteem, and that teaches such intangibles as "diversity" while ignoring constantly falling math and science scores. Lady Liberty does not condone intolerance, but she is of the firm belief that it is ignorance of history and accomplishment that causes bigotry, and that education of history and accomplishment is the solution to the problem. She also knows that the best way for a child to feel good about himself has nothing to do with praise received regardless of action, but rather with pride in praise received as the result of reaching an achievable - but not easy to reach - goal. In an effort to further real learning
and genuine scholarship, Lady Liberty provides resources on this page that will enable teachers and homeschoolers to obtain lesson plans and other classroom resources for a variety of subjects; that will help students do research for assignments; and that will be helpful to anyone of any age who wishes to expand his or her base of knowledge.
