OnJune 9, 1992, Wang Jinqing, Representative of the Chinese Government and Chinese Ambassador toRussia, and Georgian Acting First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Chikvayidze signed the Sino-Georgian communiqué inTbilisi, Capital of Georgia, on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In October the same year,Chinaset up its embassy inGeorgia. On April 23, l993, Wang Fengxiang, the first Chinese ambassador toGeorgia, presented credentials to President of the Georgian Parliament and Head of State Eduard Shevardnadze. FromJune 2 to 4, 1993, Eduard Shevardnadze, Head of theRepublicofGeorgiaand Speaker of the National Assembly paid an official visit toChina. Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Tian Jiyuan respectively held talks and met with the foreign guest. Both sides signed the Sino-Georgian Joint Statement, the Protocol of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Two Countries, the Agreement on Economic and Trade Cooperation between the Two Governments, the Agreement on Investment Encouragement and Protection, and the Agreement on the Co-operation in the Field of Science and Technology, etc. | |
