In collating this list of links, it has not been possible at this time to identify and isolate those museums with departments devoted to archaeology and related disciplines, and it is therefore emphasised that not all of the museums listed will have on-line material directly relevant to the study of ancient civilisations. However, many of the museums listed do have significant relevant collections, and it will be a matter for the individual researcher to select those which prove to be of maximum use and relevance. This page is now, and will continue to be, under development , and any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If you find that some if the listings have no relevance, or if you have details of links to relevant museums not so far listed here, please advise the Antiquities Museum by letter or by email to classics@mailbox.uq.edu.au

NOTE: The following sites are thought to be useful to students and scholars researching the anthropology of religion. Such study may move in a wide variety of directions, and so a broad definition of what constitutes an anthropology of religion site has been observed. Sites are included here on the premise that they are informative for anthropologists, whether they be otherwise thoroughly objective or seek to promote a distinct point of view. Diversity of subject matter has also been sought. Users of these sites are expected to consider for themselves the value of the information found therein. Please contact the site manager if you have additional sites to recommend or specific commentary on listed sites. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. LISTS OF LINKS

    African and African-Derivative Religions
are a large group of beliefs and practices based upon ancient indigenous faiths of sub-Saharan African peoples. Within the last 100 years in Africa (see Table of Statistics ) indigenous religion has declined under the influence of colonialism, Western acculturation and proselytizing by Islam and Christianity. In the African Diaspora (mainly in the Americas) African-derived belief systems are in a state of impressive growth. ithin just the last two years the amount of information made available through the Internet is also impressive. Some of the best information comes to us from Italy, Sweden and Brazil. We are no longer dependent upon reports from academia or encyclopedias. There are now numerous websites maintained by the faithful themselves and, while the quality and quantity of information varies enormously among them, one may now hear from practitioners their own statements of faith. In many, if not most, cases African spirituality has evolved in the Americas. Ancient practices brought westward by slaves became syncretized, more or less, with religious traditions of the slaves' masters. This syncretization is most noticeable in areas dominated by the Catholic faith and where the celebration of saints, votive offerings and other practices found parallels in ancient traditions.

What's New Remember: Holocaust museums seek broad audience 07:36 PM CDT on Friday, April 16, 2004 By DIANE CONNOLLY / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News This year, for the first time, Dallas' Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony will take place in a non-Jewish space. The observance of Yom Hashoah Sunday evening at Thanks-Giving Square downtown is designed to welcome a wider audience. "I would argue that the Holocaust doesn't belong to the Jewish people any more than the Alamo belongs to Texas," said Elliott Dlin, executive director of the Dallas Holocaust Memorial Center. The small North Dallas museum, which is moving ahead with plans to build a freestanding museum downtown, is part of an intensifying national effort by Holocaust museums to reach and educate non-Jewish audiences in new ways. Roman religion. religion was a very important part of Roman life. Museumsand Galleies Commission. WallNet. Hadrian s Wall Education Website.
    http://museums.ncl.ac.uk/wallnet/sen/Religion.htm
Roman Religion Religion was a very important part of Roman life. Romans believed in many gods who controlled their lives and brought them wealth and good luck. Most Roman houses had a special place where the family worshipped. There were three family gods- Janus, god of the doorway; Lar, god of the house and Vesta, goddess of the household fire. The gods were offered food and drinks at the beginning of a meal. Romans were superstitious, and so when they conquered people they sometimes started to worship local gods and often they gave them Latin names. For the army, the most important Roman gods were Jupiter the supreme god, Apollo the sun god and Mars the god of war. Many altars were dedicated to them in the forts. Emperor worship was introduced as a means of encouraging loyalty among the soldiers, who treated the Emperor as a living god. Temples were dedicated to particular gods and built in a variety of styles. The Romans had a strong belief in the supernatural and in curses. They would leave effigies of an afflicted body part, like an ear or a leg, at temples because they believed that the gods would heal them.
