Very Strange Recipes
(If you invite friends over and serve these recipes, make sure you have other friends!) OPOSSUM AND SWEET POTATOES Hey, Jimmy Carter ate opossum when he was little, and he became President and won the Nobel Peace Prize! This and the next recipe are from "American Food" by Evan Jones. 1 opossum, about 2 1/2 lb., skinned and cleaned
Salt
Freshly ground pepper
Flour
1/2 C water
4 medium-sized sweet potatoes
2 T. sugar Preheat oven to 350 F. Wipe opossum with a damp cloth and trim and discard excess fat. Mix salt with pepper and rub thoroughly into opossum, inside and out. Sprinkle inside and out with flour. Put opossum on its back in a roasting pan with a tight-fitting lid. Pour in water, cover, and roast in oven for about 50 minutes. Cut sweet potatoes in half lengthwise and surround opossum [note: I am laughing hysterically as I type this] with them. If water has evaporated, add enough to cover bottom of pan. Cover and return to oven for about 25 minutes more. Remove cover and sprinkle sweet potatoes with about 1/4 teaspoon salt and the sugar. Continue roasting until meat and potatoes become crisp on the surface. Makes 3 to 4 servings. SQUIRRELS IN A CLAY POT 1 t. ground savory

Hope you are hungry! SELF FAMILY FAVORITE RECIPES REF OVEN MUSKRAT Use only hams or shoulders. Be careful when you skin or clean rat and don't cut into the musk glands on the lower part of the belly. Take out white stringy stuff from inside of each leg. Boil with one sliced onion for 30 minutes. Drain, flour the pieces, and put in baking pan. Salt and pepper and put 8 slices of bacon or salt pork on top. Put 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of water in pan and roast until tender. Baste often with juice in pan as rats are pretty dry. It may smell a little different to you while cooking, but you'll learn to really like it. Geez, this is neat. My Favorite Sites!

A refreshing drink to serve trick-or-treaters.
    2 liters lemon-lime soda, chilled
    ½ gallon orange juice
    ½ gallon pineapple juice
Mix the liquids together. To add the "strange" to your "brew," plop the icy blue hand into the punch.
To make hand, fill a rubber surgical glove with water and add blue food coloring. Shake. Tie the end of the glove and freeze for 24 hours. Remove the glove. Surprise partygoers by adding this monstrous "ice sculpture" to the punch.

The Artichoke That Strange-Looking Vegetable by Donna Smith
Most of us know what an artichoke looks like. You eye it warily in the produce section as you pass by. You have to admit, it's a neat-looking vegetable, but what in the world do you do with it? My 79-year-old grandpa recently bought his very first artichoke then announced, "I bought one of those artichoke things, but I didn't eat it. I peeled off all those pokey leaves and there was nothing left, so I threw it away." Don't let this vegetable scare you! What Is It?
With its origin in the Mediterranean, the artichoke is a member of the thistle family. A single artichoke plant will produce 20 to 30 artichokes. The "Green Globe" variety is the most common and is harvested year-round. The main stem of the plant produces the largest artichokes, the middle branches produce medium-size artichokes, and the lower branches grow what are known as baby artichokes. When purchasing an artichoke, look for ones that are compact and heavy. They should be solid green in color. Don't select an artichoke that is purplish in color or budding, as this is a sign of being over-ripe.

A strange name for a great way to cook a chicken
Whether it's "Chicken on the Throne", "Beer Can Chicken", or "Beer in the Butt Chicken" this technique for cooking is gaining popularity for the tender and juicy chicken it creates. You can do this in your smoker or oven or on the grill. People who try it once seldom go back to other methods of roasting. So what is it? The biggest problem you might run into is the chicken tipping over. The weight of a half full can of beer just isn't enough to keep the chicken standing, especially if you are doing a large bird. But never fear, your fellow outdoor cooks have recognized the need and a host of products have appeared on the market to help you out. If you look in the "Elsewhere on the Web" section you will find a few variations to choose from.
