Welcome ! Radio Amateur Technology Society in Finland was established 1987 to advance technical aspects of amateur radio. The main goal of the society is to introduce new innovative technology in amateur radio. The society co-operates with other amateur organisations and is a member of the Finnish Radio Amateur Society, SRAL. Experimenters in new technology often need hard to find components. The society has managed several construction projects with component acquisition support. There is document support service for commercial radio equipment, which can be modified for amateur use. Meetings and newsletters are part of the activity. A technical meeting has been organised at the Spring Meeting of SRAL each year and early summer field day known as Gigaleiri. The first major undertaking was technical contribution to nation-wide packet radio network. Then came digital signal processing (DSP) and VHF, UHF and SHF beacons and other automatic stations. The major current project is AMSAT-OH construction of the 10 GHz transmitter assembly for P3D amateur satellite. Support for local satellite and microwave constructors is part of the AMSAT-OH project. The society takes part in meteorological balloon carried repeater project, known as

How to Become a Radio Amateur
To become a radio amateur requires a license authorized by the appropriate governing body in your country. On this page we will look briefly at licensing in the U.S. and Canada and point you to web sites that contain more licensing information. In Canada and the U.S. you will need to prepare for and take an examination to get your license. The exam material depends on the license level or class that you are applying for. For most budding hams it is a good idea to connect with a local Amateur Radio Club (ARC) where classes are given in theory and/or Morse code as needed to prepare you for the exam. Although you can get the study material to learn on your own it is generally much easier and faster to take a course. In the process you will meet other hams or hams to be and begin creating your own network of contacts.
Getting Licensed in Canada
Licensing of Amateur Radio in Canada is regulated by Industry Canada . It is illegal to operate on the amateur bands without an Amateur Radio Operator Certificate which has four levels of qualification as follows:

How do I Get an Amateur Radio Transmitting Licence?
Once you have been bitten by the bug, you will want to get started straight away. To get 'on the air' opens a whole new world to you, enabling you to make friends all over the world, build your own equipment, install your own amateur radio station in your home and fully participate in the hobby in whatever way you want. To do this it is necessary to obtain an amateur transmitting licence. International law requires countries to issue licences only to the applicants who can prove that they are able to install, maintain and operate their equipment properly. Someone who did not have the relevant knowledge could cause considerable amounts of interference to others worldwide. Fortunately it is not difficult to obtain a licence, and gaining the licence gives a real feeling of achievement, apart from the fact that you will know more about radio and its technology.
UK Licences
In the UK there are three types of licences that can be obtained. Each one gives a different level of privileges and requires tests at a different level to be passed. [
