RACQUETBALL 'LEGEND' PLAYS AT SIU BY JUSTIN WALKER
THE SOUTHERN
[Wed May 05 2004]
CARBONDALE The area's racquetball maniacs knew exactly who Cheryl Gudinas was before she visited Southern Illinois University's Rec Center Wednesday afternoon. The general population may not know Gudinas, but in the sport of racquetball, she is the best in the business.
Gudinas, who turns 37 on Tuesday, has dominated the Ladies Professional Racquetball Association for the past three years, and has won that tour's national championship five times in a row. She'll go for an unprecedented sixth title later this month.
The Lisle native was impressed with her first ever visit to Carbondale, even going as far to say that SIU's facility should host a professional tour event in the future. But it was the local male competitors who came away the most impressed after facing Gudinas 1-on-1.
