Nazi Racism
For years before Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany, he was obsessed with ideas about race. In his speeches and writings, Hitler spread his beliefs in racial "purity" and in the superiority of the "Germanic race" what he called an Aryan "master race." He pronounced that his race must remain pure in order to one day take over the world. For Hitler, the ideal "Aryan" was blond, blue-eyed, and tall. When Hitler and the Nazis came to power, these beliefs became the government ideology and were spread in publicly displayed posters, on the radio, in movies, in classrooms, and in newspapers. The Nazis began to put their ideology into practice with the support of German scientists who believed that the human race could be improved by limiting the reproduction of people considered "inferior." Beginning in 1933, German physicians were allowed to perform forced sterilizations, operations making it impossible for the victims to have children. Among the targets of this public program were Roma ( Gypsies ), an ethnic minority numbering about 30,000 in Germany, and handicapped individuals, including the mentally ill and people born deaf and blind. Also victimized were about 500 African-German children, the offspring of German mothers and African colonial soldiers in the Allied armies that occupied the German

LONDON, England (Reuters) Veteran British television presenter Robert Kilroy-Silk has quit as host of a BBC morning chat show after 17 years following a row over anti-Arab comments he made in a newspaper article. "I believe this is the right moment to leave the programme and concentrate my energies in other directions," said 61-year-old Kilroy-Silk, a former member of parliament. The BBC had suspended his long-running "Kilroy" topical discussion show after the Sunday Express newspaper published an article by him headlined "We owe the Arabs nothing."

This page was first set up after instances of racist chanting at a game in February 1998, with the intention of showing positive ways forward for all concerned, and demonstrating that many Leeds fans do care about this issue. The problem is still with us, and most of us hate it - that's why this page is still here. LATEST
Ridsdale: "We don't want to take away the passion, we just want to take away the racism"
At the game away to Leicester City on Saturday 23 March 2002, some of our fans again sang racist songs, at regular intervals throughout the match. Most of us want nothing to do with these sorts of chant. In response, the club distributed a leaflet entitled A message to All Leeds United Fans before the game away at Tottenham Hotspur on Easter Monday. It reads as follows: On behalf of everyone at Elland Road we ask you to support Leeds United in the right way. We don't want to hear racist chants today or at any future games. We are proud to be part of a club that welcomes players, fans and employees of all nationalities and colour. People who chant racist abuse will face life bans from Leeds united. We back that stance. So please supprt the club in the right way.

An example for possible future changes in policy

Elder MARK E. PETERSON Race Problems As They Affect The Church
Convention of Teachers of Religion on the College Level,
Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, August 27, 1954. God has commanded Israel not to intermarry. To go against this commandment of God would be in sin. Those who willfully sin with their eyes open to this wrong will not be surprised to find that they will be separated from the presence of God in the world to come. This is spiritual death.... The reason that one would lose his blessings by marrying a Negro is due to the restriction placed upon them. "No person having the least particle of Negro blood can hold the Priesthood" (Brigham Young). It does not matter if they are one-sixth Negro or one-hundred and sixth, the curse of no Priesthood is the same. If an individual who is entitled to the Priesthood marries a Negro, the Lord has decreed that only spirits who are not eligible for the Priesthood will come to that marriage as children. To intermarry with a Negro is to forfeit a "Nation of Priesthood holders".... The discussion on civil rights, especially over the last 20 years, has drawn some very sharp lines. It has blinded the thinking of some of our own people, I believe. They have allowed their political affiliations to color their thinking to some extent, and then, of course, they have been persuaded by some of the arguments that have been put forth....We who teach in the Church certainly must have our feet on the ground and not to be led astray by the philosophies of men on this subject....
