"How can you like the feeling of hatred in your blood?
What is it you're concealing underneath that hood?
Whether its religion or the color of the skin,
No matter what the reason, can't you see that your hatred is a sin?
And I am not deceived by the prayers I hear you pray And I can't help believe that you'll not escape the Judgement Day." from "Hand Me Down Hate" by Raspberry Jam , 1993 Metro-One Records. Used with permission. Click ( here ) to download an mp3 of this song! The following story/essay briefly describes the most influential experiences I had as a child (from the age of 5 to the age of 18) that taught me to hate bigotry and racial intolerance. The names of people have been changed in order to respect their privacy.
(1) How my parents influenced my views (1970):
I was five years old when my older sister and I started saying, "Eeny meanie miny moe. Catch a nigger by his toe. If he hollers let him go. Eeny meanie miny moe." We didn't know what "nigger" meant. As far as we knew, the word was just a small part of a rhyme that we heard other kids saying. We said the rhyme in front of my parents one night.

EKTA Kettering: Young People Against Racism
Welcome to the EKTA website.
We are a group of young people from secondary schools in Kettering Borough, between the ages of 12 and 18. We formed as a group in January 2001, so that we could educate other young people about the effects of racism and provide help, advice and support for victims of racial abuse, racist assault, racial harassment and bullying in schools and the wider community in the Kettering Borough. We want people to know that RACISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Our organisation is sponsored by Kettering Borough Council who identified racism as a subject of community concern within the local area, especially amongst young people. We support young people across the borough including Kettering, Wellingborough, Rothwell and Desborough.

65. Blood Libel: Racism And The Fear Of Sex In The Pro-life Movement
Examines the roots of racism and the fear of sex in history and the prolife movement.
http://www.postfun.com/pfp/features/98/oct/bloodlibel.html
The Roots of Racism and the Fear of Sex in the Pro-life Movement
by Miss Poppy Dixon It is remarkable how uninventive is human malignity. Renan One of the most scandalous lies that one group has told about another is that the other group kills, and sometimes eats, children. This accusation, known as "blood libel," has a long, and tenacious history. Usually the motive for this lie has to do with race or nationality, but currently it is directed primarily at the female gender.
History of Blood Libel
Modern Interpretations The Asian Version
Pro-Choice Racism
... Notes THE HISTORY OF BLOOD LIBEL
During the middle ages it was common for Christians to accuse Jews of "ritual murder." Jews celebrated Passover during which they would put the blood of a slaughtered lamb on their doorpost commemorating their escape from Egypt. The Christian notion, deliberately perverted, was that Jews were required to use the blood of Christian children to attain propitiation. Entire villages of Jews were tortured, mutilated and burned when a Christian child turned up dead or missing. And though Popes, and magistrates, pleaded with local populations, and often hid Jews, the killings continued. Though Jews were murdered by Christians, and their synagogues burned, from the early years of Christianity, the accusation of blood libel began in full force with the death of a 12-year-old boy named William in 1144. And though the accusation continues today the Catholic church finally condemned it in 1934 by ending the worship of Simon of Trent, a young boy murdered in Italy in 1475, and excluding church chants that contained the phrase "the perfidious Jews."

The Consequences of Anti-Gypsy Racism in Europe Ian Hancock Other Voices , v.2, n.1 (February 2000) Reprint of a text delivered to the Joint Seminar on Roma (Gypsies) in Europe , Warsaw, September 20-23, 1994. Originally published in The Belgrade Circle , no.1-2, 1995.
You talk about the race problem, the immigration problem, all sorts of problems. If you are liberal, you say that Black people have problems. If you are not, you say they are the problem. But the members of the new Europe have only one real problem; that problem is white people. Racism, of course, is not our problem; It is yours. We simply suffer the effects of your racism. H onored Ambassador, Mister Chairman, respected fellow delegates. I have chosen as the topic of my address before this meeting the issue of racism. Specifically, the nature and consequences of racism in eastern Europe directed at the Romani population. Racism must be recognized as a cancer which, if not checked, will lead us surely and inevitably into a catastrophic situation which has the potential to destroy Europe in a 2lst century chaos. I don't wish to be charged with hyperbole. But I believe that the points I wish to raise here cannot be made too forcefully. The move to Democracy, if it is to be successful, must incorporate all aspects of the democratic system. If the transition in that direction is only a partial one, then the system will be incomplete, and will never function properly. Frustration and resentment will remain. One part of the democratic ideal which must be given priority is the granting of basic human rights. Since 1989, the human rights record in parts of eastern Europe has been abysmal. Eastern European nations cannot simply pick and choose, selecting those aspects of democracy which appeal to them and ignoring those which don't; if the post-communist nations are to embrace democracy fully and successfully, the recognition of the equal worth of all human beings must become fundamental. The alternative can only be disaster.

Welcome to the FARE Network online
We want to see the 'beautiful game' played without the cancer of racism. Football is the biggest sport in the world and belongs to us all. It should be the right of every person to play, watch and discuss freely, without fear.
Unfortunately, at all levels of the game, from amateur to international, there are incidents of racism. Be it from fans, players, clubs or other football bodies, FARE believes that such behaviour, on and off the field, is unacceptable and unwanted by the majority of fans and players.
FARE aims to rid the game of racism by combining the resources of anti-racist football organisation throughout Europe. It helps to support and nurture groups and coordinates efforts on an European scale. By working together, FARE helps organisations share good practice and present a united front against racism in football.
FARE at the UEFA Euro 2004
FARE are UEFA's partner in the campaign to eliminate racism from football.
Football has the power to unite people no matter what their background, language or religion. With the support of UEFA, the European Union, players' unions and fans' organisations from across the continent; FARE has pioneered a series of activities to help tackle racism and xenophobia during the UEFA EURO 2004 tournament.

Mideast dominates racism summit
DURBAN, South Africa (CNN) Accusations of racism in the Middle East dominated Saturday's session of the world conference against racism. World leaders began delivering their formal addresses to the United Nations World Conference Against Racism on Saturday morning. Behind the scenes, conference committees are thrashing out the wording of a final declaration to be adopted at the end of the eight-day U.N. summit. A draft declaration has already been condemned by the United States for its anti-Israel language. The United States and Canada have sent only low-level delegations because of the wording of the draft, that followed weeks of haggling between diplomats in Geneva. Reverse Racism,
or How the Pot Got to Call the Kettle Black
In America "whites once set themselves apart from blacks and claimed privileges for themselves while denying them to others," the author writes. "Now, on the basis of race, blacks are claiming special status and reserving for themselves privileges they deny to others. Isn't one as bad as the other? The answer is no"
by Stanley Fish

I Only if racism is thought of as something that occurs principally in the mind, a falling-away from proper notions of universal equality, can the desire of a victimized and terrorized people to band together be declared morally identical to the actions of their would-be executioners. Only when the actions of the two groups are detached from the historical conditions of their emergence and given a purely abstract description can they be made interchangeable. Bush was saying to the United Nations, "Look, the Nazis' conviction of racial superiority generated a policy of systematic genocide; the Jews' experience of centuries of persecution in almost every country on earth generated a desire for a homeland of their own. If you manage somehow to convince yourself that these are the same, it is you, not the Zionists, who are morally confused, and the reason you are morally confused is that you have forgotten history."
A KEY DISTINCTION W HAT I want to say, following Bush's reasoning, is that a similar forgetting of history has in recent years allowed some people to argue, and argue persuasively, that affirmative action is reverse racism. The very phrase

Racism
means attitudes, practices and other factors that disadvantage people because of their race, color or ethnicity. Racism can be directed against any race, color or ethnicity.
Some examples of racism are obvious, such as graffiti, intimidation or physical violence. Racial and ethnic slurs and "jokes" are other examples. Unfortunately, they are often ignored because people do not know how to deal with them.
Other forms of racism are not obvious, such as discrimination in hiring and apartment rentals, or policies that disadvantage members of certain races, whether intentionally or not.
Racism exists at three main levels: individual, institutional and cultural.
Individual racism takes the form of individual attitudes, beliefs, values and behaviours. Racial prejudice , bigotry, belittling and jealousy are examples of racist attitudes. Examples of racist beliefs are racial

This War and Racism Media Denial in Overdrive
By Norman Solomon Among the millions of words that have appeared in the U.S. press since late April about abuse and torture at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, one has been notably missing: Racism. Overall, when it comes to racial aspects, the news coverage is quite PC as in Pentagon Correct. The outlook is "apple pie" egalitarian, with the media picture including high-profile officers who are African-American and Latino. Meanwhile, inside the policy arena, Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice are frequently in front of cameras to personify Uncle Sam in blackface. The U.S. government doesn’t drop bombs on people because of their race. Washington’s geopolitical agendas lead to military actions. But racial biases make the war process easier when the people being killed and maimed aren’t white people. An oversize elephant in the American media’s living room is a reality that few journalists talk about in public: The USA keeps waging war on countries where the victims resemble people who often experience personal and institutional racism in the United States. In the American media coverage of the uproar after release of the Abu Ghraib photos, one of the only references to race was fleeting and dismissive, midway through a

What Is Racism?
The 'racist' double standard: how Whites are made to feel guilty and "hateful" for loving their own people and culture.
by Thomas Jackson
There is surely no nation in the world that holds "racism" in greater horror than does the United States. Compared to other kinds of offenses, it is thought to be somehow more reprehensible. The press and public have become so used to tales of murder, rape, robbery, and arson, that any but the most spectacular crimes are shrugged off as part of the inevitable texture of American life. "Racism" is never shrugged off. For example, when a White Georgetown Law School student reported earlier this year that black students are not as qualified as White students, it set off a booming, national controversy about "racism." If the student had merely murdered someone he would have attracted far less attention and criticism. Racism is, indeed, the national obsession. Universities are on full alert for it, newspapers and politicians denounce it, churches preach against it, America is said to be racked with it, but just what is racism?
