Township Information - Denton
Early History
There are at least two explanations for the name Denton - that it meant 'Dane Town' or 'valley settlement', 'den' meaning valley 'ton' meaning settlement. Denton is mentioned in several 14th century documents, referred to as Denton-subter-Danerhaugh, and by the 1660s it was a large village of 500 inhabitants. The population in 1801 was 2,500, in 1841 was 7,000, and by 1950 over 25,000. The large increase during the 19th century was due to Denton becoming a suburb of Manchester. One of the most remarkable buildings existing in Denton today is St. Lawrence's known as Denton Old Church, or 'Old Peg', because of the wooden pegs used in its construction. It was built in 1530 and, despite alterations and renovations, is still not greatly changed today. In 1884 the local governments of the townships of Denton and Haughton were amalgamated under one authority - the Denton and Haughton Local Board - and in 1894 the Committee of the Lancashire County Council decided that Denton and Haughton were to be united and known as the Denton Urban District Council. The free library was planned to celebrate Victoria's Jubilee in 1887 and was opened on April 28, 1888. The cemetery opened in 1894, also allowing the public access to woodland surrounding it, and in 1913 Denton Park opened.

'Bodega Pastures Sheep' are producers of organic wool and practitioners of sustainable ranching in California. "Our flock ranges free on the Northern California coastal prairie. Our sheep eat grasses, clover, and forbs. The sheep drink spring water which flows from high on our ridges. At our midwinter lambing we supplement our ewes' feed with hay which is grown on our ridge spines and bottom fields. Around the time of birth, we also feed our sheep organic grains and meal from California and Oregon, according to the ewes' and lambs' needs.... We make or have made a wide range of organic wool products from our sheep."

FULL-TEXT
"Purebred Rambouillet, Targhee and Columbia sheep were observed on mountain summer ranges in southwestern Utah. Under unherded conditions Rambouillet sheep travelled greater distances and spent more time resting, while Columbias travelled the least distances, rested least and grazed longer than the other breeds. All breeds travelled farther in the morning than in the afternoon but grazed longer in the afternoon. There was a tendency for the sheep to water and take salt in the mornings rather than in the afternoons. Overgrazing on established bedgrounds was caused by animals grazing these areas in the evening prior to bedding down. Fencing along the crests of the ridges and more strategic salt placement appear to be the most useful means of improving distribution."

Coastal Heritage
An introduction to the history of the Sefton Coast
Early settlement would have occurred in an environment very different to today's landscape. It is likely that what dunes did exist formed barriers with lagoons behind them. The coast throughout Mesolithic, Neolithic, bronze age and iron age times was constantly changing with probably at least four transgressions and retreats of the coast. This article looks at more recent history and on the landscape that we see today. How did it form, how has it changed and how have we changed it. There have probably been two major periods of dune building on the Sefton Coast. In the Netherlands old dunes and new dunes have been identified. The older dunes were formed prior to Roman times and subsequently were much eroded. On the Sefton Coast the present dune system probably began to form about 800-900AD in a period of rising sea-levels. High, actively mobile dune systems are often a reflection of erosion pushing the sand into high mounds. Perhaps the first settlers we should think about seriously are the Scandinavians from 850AD onwards. Formby, Ainsdale, Birkdale and Ravenmeols are all of Scandinavian origin. There is evidence to suggest that the two cultures, Anglo Saxon and Scandinavian, mingled. By Domesday times both cultures coexisted.

Keywords: endangered ecosystem, grassland, wetland, conservation, landscape, human influence, biodiversity. Introduction If men could learn from history, what lessons it might teach us! Samuel Taylor Coleridge 1836 What is the value of history to ecology? More specifically, what can historical, time-series data tell us that is relevant to current land management? We addressed this question by looking at how humans have influenced the Palouse Prairie of west-central Idaho. Our objectives were to (1) develop a history of European-American settlement and biological diversity in the Palouse bioregion, (2) use this history to understand how human activities have altered land cover and ecological integrity of the bioregion, and (3) assess the utility of information of differing scales and time periods. We believe that understanding the biophysical changes that have occurred in this region will provide a useful starting point for establishing research hypotheses, conservation goals, and ecological restoration efforts.

Summary
The bacteriological examination of internal organs from 14 dead camels had severe respiratory symptoms revealed the isolation of P. multocida (PM) from 86.6% of the collected organs (52 out of 60) P. multocida subspecies multocida (PMM) (serotype B) represented 85% of the isolates, while P. multocida subspecies septica (PMS) (serotype A) was isolated only from one lung specimen (1.7%). Nasal swabs and blood specimens from clinical cases and contact apparently healthy camels showed similar isolation patterns. PMM serotype (B) was isolated in 85.9%, 65.6% and 30.4%, 8.1% respectively, while PMS serotype (A) was isolated from clinical cases only, 3.1% and 1.6% respectively. PMM serotype (A) was also isolated from nasal swabs of contact apparently healthy camels (3%).
Serum biochemical analysis showed significant decrease in total protein, albumin as well as A/G ratio, while the globulin fraction was increased. The enzyme activity of ALT, AST, alkaline phosphatasedase as well as the values of creatinine, urea and uric acid were significantly increased. Minerals profiles were also altered, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, chloride were significantly decrease, whereas potassium increased. It was concluded that serum IgG-ELISA was superior to nasal secretion IgG-ELISA, DIA and IH which can also assess in the diagnosis of PM infection in camels in conjunction with serum biochemical parameters.

ANKARA - Kavaklidere Wines, the oldest and first private sector wine producer which was set up by Cemal And in Ankara in 1929, has continuously improved through the years and become Turkey's most prominent wine producer. Kavaklidere produces world famous wines such as Selection white and red, Narince, Kalecik Karasi, Special white and red, Tatli Sert red and white, Cankaya, Golden Foam, Pink Foam, Inci Damlasi, Kimiz, Primeur red and white, Kavak, Dikmen, Muscat, Yakut, Efsane, Sultaniye, Sultaniye Sweet, Rosato, Lal, Okuzgozu, Bogazkere. Now the company introduces Ancrya, a new wine made with famous Kalecik Karasi grapes.
About wine production in Turkey and establishment of Kavaklidere
Turkey is located in the most suitable climatic zone for growing grape vines, and it is the word's fifth biggest producer of fresh grapes, but unfortunately only two percent of vineyards can be used for wine production. After the Ottoman period and with the reforms of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, during the 1920s a new period of wine culture in Turkey emerged. Kavaklidere Wines, the oldest and first private sector wine producer of Turkey, was born in such an atmosphere. Cenap And, the founder of the firm, came from a family which had large farms and vineyards, and he was an expert of viticulture as he lived in a wine-loving culture in Austria where he had his university education.
