Quebec geography and history
Quebec geography
Quebec, in 1996, is a province containing about 7 million inhabitants. Quebec is a peninsula more-or-less shaped like a triangle from which we must subtract the land mass which makes up Labrador ( and which is part of Newfoundland). From east to west, Quebec is bordered by Labrador, New Brunswick, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, and Ontario. Most of the population is to be found in the southern part of the province, especially along the shores of the St. Lawrence River. Colonization first took place along the St. Lawrence, then the Richelieu River, then the Outaouais, then the Eastern Townships, and finally in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean and Abitibi regions.

My pictures of Quebec City. I took them all during a trip on Labor Day weekend, 2002 (September 1-2). Quebec city is a pretty town, but there's not much to do and it's not the kind of town that's great to hang out in (like, say, Paris or Amsterdam). I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it again.

Quebec City owes its picturesque charm to
history, but also to geography
Quebec is the result of geography (Raoul Blanchard) Quebec City is established on a remarkable natural site . It offers all the elements that render a landscape grand: straight of the river, a steep hill several hundred meters high, Cap Diamant , an exceptional harbor site, a way to penetrate deep into the country and the Saint-Charles river. This picture was taken from the city, more precisely from Cap Diamant above the St-Lawrence (Promenade des Gouverneurs). Production Global Internet

The Provincial Flag
The Quebec provincial flag was adopted on January 21, 1948. The flag depicts a white cross and 4 'fleurs-de-lis' on a blue background. The fleurs-de-lis had been used as the royal seal on the banners of French kings since the 1100's.
The Provincial Flower
The blue flag iris is the flower native to Quebec that most closely resembles the fleur-de-lis. It replaced the Madonna Lily as Quebec's provincial flower in 1999.
