Jack Hodgins Jack Hodgins was born in Comox on Vancouver Island in 1938, and raised in the logging community of Merville. After graduating from the University of British Columbia, he movedwith his wife Dianneto Nanaimo, where he taught high school English until 1979. He has been a writer-in-residence at Simon Fraser University and the University of Ottawa, and since 1983, has been teaching fiction workshops in the Department of Writing, University of Victoria. Formerly a contributing editor to On the Issues , a columnist for New Jersey Woman Magazine , and a regular contributor to such publications as New Directions for Women Psychiatric Times Earth Times , and the Journal of American Medical Writers , Ms. Clift currently contributes to such international and local media as Women's Feature Service WomensEnews WINGS Radio The Brattleboro Reformer The Keene Sentinel and The Christian Science Monitor Her work has appeared in such major dailies as The Washington Post and The Chicago Sun Times . In 1992, following publication of her first book, Telling It Like It Is: Reflections of A Not So Radical Feminist (KIT Inc.), Ms. Clift received the Award for Excellence in Journalism from the New Jersey Education Association. She has since published eight more books and is currently at work on a novel and an invited collection of writings about women, philanthropy, and social change. A novelist, short story and nonfiction writer, Mary Soderstrom's most recent book is Recreating Eden: A Natural History of Botanical Gardens (Véhicule Press,2001. ) She lives in Montreal and is currentlly working on two novels, Surfing Ocean Beach and The Violets of Usambara . For the latter project she received a generous grant from the Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec, which allowed her to do research in East Africa. Margaret Atwood Margaret Atwood was born in Ottawa in 1939 and has degrees from the University of Toronto and Radcliffe College, and has lived in many places, including Vancouver, Montreal, Edmonton, Boston, England, Scotland, and France. She supported her word habit with many non-writing jobs in youth, but has been a full-time writer since 1972fiction, screenplays, poetry, non-fictionwith short interludes of guest teaching here and there.
