Do you want to bring kids into this world?
That is a good question. I hear it all of the time. If you have to ask the question the answer is probably no. If you are an alcoholic or drug addict the answer is definitely no. If you are a smoker unless you quit the answer is no.
Sadly being a parent is a job that takes on the job training. There are many parenting books on the market and many are contradictory. I remember Dr. Spock and saw the damage done by his methods of parenting. He even apologized to the parents and children when he realized he was wrong.
The way I look at it the answer is yes if you can raise children to be good students, to stay away from drugs, alcohol and cigarettes, to respect and learn from their elders, to not bully or cut down others, to be a good leader and follower and most importantly of you can be a good example for your children.
“Do as I say, not as I do.” That is the worst philosophy I have ever heard. It borders on stupidity. No matter what you say they will do as you do and you have no one to blame but yourself.
A bad environment is a bad excuse for a child going bad if the parent does there job as a parent. The kid got in with the wrong crowd is not an excuse but a cop out. I am a single parent is not an excuse.

The role of parents in the education of children is vital. Studies show that student achievement through test scores increases in proportion to the increase in parental involvement. We are fortunate to have very active PTA's/ PTO's in our schools that provide many vehicles for our parents to become involved. Yet, quite often parents report never being asked to volunteer as a reason they are not involved. Each school is unique. Staff and parents need to assess their own situation and try to address ways to increase involvement by eliminating any possible barriers. OVERVIEW
  • The Kenosha Rotary Safety Center at 5716 14th Avenue houses the Safety Education Division of the Kenosha Police Department. Per city school PTAs the safety officer conducts background investigations for those parents who apply to be part of the Smiley House (Safe Haven) program. MARLBORO — "My parents will kill me" is not motivation enough in a day when kids are smarter than you are, according to speaker Thomas Palermo. In an Oct. 2 lecture titled "Stop the Yelling and Gain Cooperation," Palermo told a Marlboro Middle School auditorium crowded with parents that anger and fear tactics are ultimately doomed to fail. Palermo is the founder of Positive Parenting, and an author, trainer and member of the National Speakers Association. The event was sponsored by the Marlboro Board of Education, the Marlboro Township Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse and the community’s PTA/PTO/SCOPE organizations. As a speaker, Palermo was very animated, using humorous anecdotes to establish serious points.

    st CENTURY GRANT TAKING SHAPE
    As many Healdsburg residents know, the school district received a large federal grant last year for students in grades 7-12. The district will receive $468,000 per year for three years to provide after school programs that include academics, recreation, and enrichment. The programs will run from 3:00 to 6:00 Monday through Thursday at Healdsburg Junior High, Healdsburg High School, and Marce Becerra Academy. There will be additional activities on some Fridays and Saturdays. An Advisory Committee has been formed to create and implement the program. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please call the number below. The program is slated to begin in October. The success of this program requires the mobilization of community resources. Teachers, parents, and community members will all be needed to offer activities that appeal to adolescents and teenagers. Do you have a skill or talent that you would like to share? Here are a few ideas: web design, computer repair, quilting, dance, gardening, art, fishing, or chess. Your imagination is the limit.     When the teacher has an aide, the teacher directs the aide on when, how, what to help the student with. The aide should be as invisible as possible. Have other children help your child as much as they can; this is only natural. There are many ways children can help. Also, there should be many times when the teacher is directly working with your child and the aide is working with others in the class. When a teacher has an aide, instead of a student, the two educators can co-teach, break the class into groups to teach, etc. Most teachers love the idea of the aide being theirs instead of a student's!

    Plug-Ins Needed for Certain Content: Flash Real Player Acrobat Reader Dream Big May 03, 2002 20 Simple Ways To Get Girls Involved In Sports When girls are involved in sports at an early age, they are more likely to stay involved in athletics in their adult life. Here are some ideas to give girls an opportunity to try new sports or to get involved for the very first time.
  • Invite high school girl athletes to come to the elementary school, park or church to give a clinic.
  • Get the parents involved. Send out flyers about youth athletic associations (Little League softball/baseball, soccer, field hockey).
  • Start a Big Sister/Little Sister Athletic Club that pairs an older girl with a younger girl. The older athlete can bring the young girl to a practice, attend sporting events with her, practice drills and teach her the basics of one or more sports.
  • Hold a school-wide Olympics based on girls moving from station to station learning the basics of several different sports. This gives girls an opportunity to try a new skill in the safety of a fun, group-oriented event.
  • Take a class or team to a high school/college/professional women's basketball, soccer or volleyball game. Afterward, go out for pizza or sandwiches and encourage the girls to talk about what they think it's like to be a female athlete. What are the challenges? What are the rewards? What do you have to do to succeed?

    PTA Newsletter From The PTO FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents and Students of ACRMS, If you have been to the back of our school, I am sure you have noticed the bank and our softball and baseball fields. They were so overgrown with briars, ivy, weeds, etc... that we were gradually losing our fields. Mr. Sam Banks organized parents and students to clean up these areas. They spent several weekends and numerous hours clearing this growth. The office has started collecting "Box Tops for Education." This will earn money for the office for supplies and equipment. We are also collecting used printer cartridges. These can be sent in and we will be able to collect money, which we will also use for supplies and equipment. As you collect any of the above, please send them to Mrs. Mills in the main office. Thank you in advance for your help. School will be closed March 29 - April 5 for spring break. If we miss no more unscheduled days of school, the last student day will be Friday, May 24. This means we have 55 days of school remaining. This year has flown by - the construction has gone well and is scheduled to be completed by July 1. The new lighting, paint, heating, air conditioning and windows will make this learning environment much more pleasant. Thank you for your patience during this year. It will be worth it!

    The Washington Times , Monday, July 9, 2001      The name "PTA" may conjure up images of moms working closely with schools, carnivals and other money-raising efforts, and of close relationships between parents and those who teach their children.      Increasingly, that image comes not from PTA's, but from "PTO's" or Parent Teacher Organizations, independent parent groups that choose to organize at schools without any affiliation to the national Parent Teacher Association.      Why the change? Parent activists are finding an increasing divide between the purposes of their state and national PTA leaders and their own objectives. And they're therefore withdrawing their memberships and forming PTO's.      Since 1966, PTA membership has dropped from 12 million to 6.6 million, even as student enrollment has risen from 31 million to 52 million. In response to budgetary cutbacks, the PTA raised its dues a few years ago and 400,000 members dropped their membership. This spring, parents in 22 school districts in Utah dropped out. In some states, PTA membership has dropped as low as 6 percent.      Two reasons for these departures seem to dominate, and the national PTA appears unwilling to address either.
