Programs by State
Therapeutic wilderness programs are an excellent alternative to juvenile boot camps. These outdoor therapy programs emphasize behavioral and emotional change. Youth boot camps tend to focus on military discipline and rarely deal with the therapeutic interventions that result in real changes in the behavior of troubled teens and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems. Wilderness camps teach teenagers cooperation, self-reliance, and responsibility for personal behavior. Teens learn how to work within a group and respond to positive peer pressure from other students in the group who have already experienced the first few levels or phases of the program. Parents report higher levels of self-esteem, a stronger sense of personal responsibility, a renewed sense of accomplishment and the ability to achieve, as well as improved behavior within the family setting upon return home. The emphasis on behavioral change through well-established therapeutic techniques makes the wilderness experience a much more effective program for troubled teens over military style bootcamps. Wilderness programs can be a good short-term program during which therapists and parents can evaluate a child's continuing needs, possibly recommending continuation in a residential boarding school. Wilderness programs range in time from 28-35 days or more. The typical cost for the 28-35 day stay ranges from $8000 to $14,000.

Canadian boot camps
A look at the implementation of Canadian youth correctional boot camps.
This article will explore juvenile crime, youth correctional military styled boot camps, their effects on the juvenile offenders, as well as prisons and their effects on the youth. In addition, because Canada has no Boot Camps I will explore the United States and their Boot Camps and finally rehabilitation and reintegration. Crimes involving youths are more vicious today than they were in the past. There is a rapidly rising number of juvenile arrests in the past several years. Youth Correctional Boot Camps, can they be the solution to the rising concern among youths today? Or, is placing impressionable juvenile offenders in an adult prison the right response? Can military styled Boot Camps be used as a prevention tool as well as delinquency corrector? Rehabilitation through a combination of a physically exhausting military regiment and educational awareness will enable youths to be reintegrated into society and contribute positively to the world. bodyOffer(28877) What is juvenile crime? It is defined by Canadian Criminal Law as, any wrongs committed against individuals and society as a whole which are prohibited by law committed by juveniles." In addition, to be considered as a juvenile you have to be between the ages of 12 and 17.

If you are a player who is strong defensively but needs to work on your approach at the plate, this is the camp for you. Coaches will work with players in small groups to break down each player's swing and determine how to add power and consistency. We will videotape your swing and pinpoint mechanical adjustments you can make in order to improve. Next we will work with you to develop a game plan so that every time you step into the batter's box you are prepared to hit. You will leave this camp with the confidence necessary to succeed. Next summer Abby will bike from Oregon to New Jersey as part of an eight-week cross-country expedition to benefit kids with cancer. She will be 17. Most adventure programs are designed for older kids. Campers must be 11 or older to attend a Trailmark or BikingX program.
