West Prince Graphic Ellerslie residents vote no against sewer system - by Jean Kenny Ellerslie residents had originally been in favour of installing a central sewer system in the community, but after a vote by secret ballot, the majority of taxpayers were against it. While members of the community council are happy to stand by the vote and follow the wishes of the community, they are concerned that a flyer, sent out the day of the vote, carried incorrect information. Two days before the scheduled vote, council mailed out fliers to all residents outlining what a sewer system would mean for the community and what it was expected to cost. There appeared to be some confusion as to whether or not those residents who did not want to hook up to the sewer system would have their taxes raised to pay for the system. The flyer contained such false statements as: The results of the environment impact study have not been made readily available, Taxes for everyone in Ellerslie and Bideford will be raised by $100- $300 even if you never get connected and the annual fee will be between $500-$650 per year. Although surprised at the outcome of the vote, because initially more than 100 residents had attended a council meeting wanting a sewer system installed, the chairperson said she expects people were just being cautious.

Prince Edward Island is Canada's smallest and greenest Province. It is located in the region traditionally known as the "Maritimes". It is part of "Atlantic Canada" which is also home to the Provinces of Nova Scotia New Brunswick , and Newfoundland . People in the know affectionately refer to Prince Edward Island as PEI and the friendly residents are known as "Islanders". The Island is approximately 1600 km (1000 miles) from Toronto, 1100 km (650 miles) from Boston, and 1450 km (850 miles) from New York City. I suppose I can consider myself an Islander. A couple of years ago we bought a building lot on the Island with the thought that we'd eventually move back.
