http://ancient.anguish.org/history/prehistory.html
Prehistory of Ancient Anguish
It is apparent from both paleontological and zoological evidence that the world was first inhabited by huge prehistoric beasts, such as immense insects and reptiles. The bones and exoskeletons of these creatures are sometimes uncovered, and, in addition, this strain of biological gigantism lives on in the varieties of Giant Wasps, Giant Cockroaches, and Giant Rats which may be found in less settled areas of the world.
There is some reason, therefore, to include the race of Giants which still inhabit some areas of the world as among the oldest native races on the known map. Archaeological evidence also points to the extreme antiquity of the Dwarven and Elven races. The Orc race, which is also met frequently among the inhabitants, seems to be of a more recent arrival, having emigrated eastward over the past several thousand years.
Additionally, there is evidence of even older races, some of whom have been previously considered to be only mythological in nature (i.e. satyrs, minotaurs, etc.) Artifacts of these extinct races are frequently uncovered in previously buried tombs, caves and other geological and constructed locations.
What little is known of the eons of sentient history before the arrival of humans in the world, has been gathered mainly from Elven sources and folklore. So far, it is Elves who have provided the oldest timeline extant, which places the present date (514 Human Era, or HE) at 2673 Sylvandor. The Sylvandor calendar apparently dates from the founding of the (perhaps mythical) Elven kingdom of Sylvandor which, according to legend, exists in deep forests far south behind the wall of mist. In any event, the five elven clans (Amros, Glendoriel, Midiar, Sethic, and Turgon) which affiliated themselves into the Eldar Coalition in the year 2098 Sylvandor were already of ancient origin.

The Prehistory of Powered Flight - An Overview
Leonardo discovered and analyzed several of the basic principles of aerodynamics and physics and designed machines (but, in most cases, did not fly them) that applied these principles. He wrote prolifically, and it was only because his written works were lost for centuries that his influence on other inventors was not greater than it was. His writings included hundred of sketches that illustrated his observations of flight in nature and the inventions he designed. He wrote and drew on key problems of aeronautics, including action and reaction; the structure of wings, carrying surfaces, and landing gear; and even devices for directional control. Others in the next centuries took tentative steps toward flight. Various individuals tried to imitate the motion of birds and built apparatus with flapping wings called ornithopters. Sometimes they attached wings to their arms and sometimes also their legs. Some mounted winged devices that they manipulated in various ways and occasionally added foot-pedal power. Although a few were able to travel short distances, others died when they jumped off roofs or towers and they and their devices crashed to the ground. Other experimenters tried gliding rather than flapping. In general, these were more successful than the flapping efforts, although the distances were still very short. In any case, many claimed to have flown but, not surprisingly, few had witnesses or could offer proof. Cayley's work influenced inventors for at least the next fifty years. Both unpowered gliders and planes that were powered by engines were attempted. Gliders were built that progressively could fly farther and farther and over which the pilots gradually gained control. Some of these gliders were outlandish-looking devices with various types of wing designs that had one, two, three, or even more flying surfaces. Some had short stubby wings while others had wings that were extremely long and narrow. In France, the founding of the first aeronautical society, the Soci‚te A‚rostatique et M‚t‚orologique de France, in 1852, marked the recognition of aviation as a legitimate discipline. Louis Charles Letur built and tested a parachute-glider, which was the first pilot-controlled machine to be tested in flight. Michel Loup, Jean-Marie LeBris, and others built flying machines that were modeled after birds.

COLLECTIONS
ARCHAEOLOGY AND WORLD CULTURES
There is no firm evidence for Palaeolithic (Old Stone Age) people in Ireland. The earliest human presence in Ireland dates to around 9000 years ago (7000 BC) during a time known as the Mesolithic (Middle Stone Age, 7000 - 4500 BC). The Ulster Museum holds the excavated material from some of the most important Mesolithic sites in Ireland including that from the earliest human habitation site at Mount Sandel, Co. Derry.
The Ulster Museum holds substantial collections of Neolithic (New Stone Age, 4500 - 2500 BC) ceramic and lithic material from well known sites such as Lyles Hill, Ballygalley Head and Goodland in Co. Antrim and Island MacHugh in Co. Tyrone. Also included are the excavated remains from some of the best known megalithic tombs such as Audleystown and Ballyalton in Co. Down; Ballykeel in Co. Armagh and Ballymacaldrack (Dooey's Cairn) in Co. Antrim. Probably the best known group of objects from the collection is the 'Malone Hoard' which is a group of very fine polished stone axes from the Malone area of Belfast.
The Bronze Age (2500 - 300 BC) collection includes a range of objects including flint arrowheads, stone hammers, beads, pottery, bronze tools and weapons and gold ornaments. The pottery collection includes excavated finds from sites such as Cloghskelt, Co. Down, stray finds and pots that were uncovered during nineteenth century antiquarian

Lost World : Rewriting Prehistory-How New Science Is Tracing Americas Ice Age Mariners > Customer Review #1: Interesting but unnecessarily wordy

This book is well written and the ideas presented are well developed and clear. The descriptions of the excavations and the dating of artifacts are exciting. The only shortcoming which discouraged me from giving the book five stars is the fact that theres a lot of seemingly unnecessary and unrelated text that detracts from the main theme and flow of ideas in the book, e.g., the Baron of beef au jus incident; I fully agree with the Publishers Weeklys review on this issue. Otherwise, the book is informative in presenting an alternative view, and related evidence, as to the mechanics of how the New World was populated by humans.

JVC's 70 years have been marked by many technological innovations and groundbreaking product introductions. In 1959, JVC developed the forerunner of today's VCR when it launched the KV-1, the world's first two-head helical scan VTR. The 2 head helical scanning system is now used in virtually every analog video recorder in the world; a color version of the KV-1 made its debut in 1960.
In 1963, JVC developed and marketed the smallest two-head, 1 inch VTR with a built-in TV monitor. The company introduced the color video cartridge recorder, the prototype of today's U-Format VCR, in 1966.
In 1969, JVC invented the "color under" color recording method used in U-Format, 8mm video, Hi-8, VHS and S-VHS. The process was an important step in making color VCRs affordable.
A VCR incorporating a tuner and timer was introduced by JVC in 1972. Two years later, the company developed the world's first color portable VTR system and the world's first 3/4-inch U-Format VCR with noiseless still and pause functions.
One of the biggest milestones in JVC's history was its introduction of the VHS format in 1976 which launched the global video revolution. A decade later, the company received an Emmy Award for its achievements.
