Creation

Tantalising rumours of huge, unusual elephants, with features similar to extinct elephant types like the mammoth, have circulated for years in remote areas of western Nepal.
Mammoth Discovery
Their features happen to be remarkably like those shown in cave drawings of the mammoths, for example in southwest France, which are dated by evolutionists to as much as 30,000 years (and never less than 10,000 years) ago. Recommended resource Life in the Great Ice Age
In this colorful novel, your whole family will learn what life was like during the Ice Age after the Flood. Packed full of scientific facts that can be used to defend creation and the Flood, and oppose evolution. Read through this book as a devotional with your children!

Pleistocene Megafauna Extinctions
Source: Stevens, William K. 1997. New Suspect in Ancient Extinctions of the Pleistocene Megafauna: Disease. New York Times When the first humans migrated from Asia to North America 15,000 years ago or more, they confronted an array of big animals more dazzling than that of modern Africa. Mammoths, mastodons, camels, horses and a stately deer called the stag-moose coexisted with giant ground sloths and beavers the size of today's black bears. These plant-eaters were prey for meat-eaters like saber-toothed cats, savage short-faced bears, cheetahs, maned lions and dire wolves, bigger versions of today's wolves. Scores of other large species roamed the continent as well. They all vanished about 13,000 years ago in a geological eye blink of perhaps 400 years. The cause of this mass extinction and similar ones elsewhere in the world near the end of the Pleistocene era has been a much debated mystery. One camp in the debate contends that a rapidly changing climate at the end of the last ice age did in the Pleistocene megafauna, as they are called, by transforming their habitat. An opposing camp, pointing out that the extinctions closely followed the animals' first contact with modern humans, holds that the megafauna were essentially hunted to extinction. The hunters' blitzkrieg was made easy, they contend, because the naive victims had no fear of people and were easy prey for prehistoric humans with well-honed spears.

The American Mastodon
The Mastodon in the Museum of Florida History was discovered on the north side of Wakulla Springs covered in aquatic plants and river sediment in about 25 feet of water in the fall of 1930. It is just one of numerous late Pleistocene fossil species found at Wakulla Springs which includes horses, bison, mammoths, and other mastodons for over a century. Property improvements were being made to the springs at the time of the skeleton's discovery. Construction was carefully supervised in case fossils were found. The Florida Geological Survey was contacted when a large amount of bones was discovered. The bones were recovered using two rafts, one equipped with a pump used to remove sediment and one with grappling tongs to bring up the skeletal remains. It is the first fossil in Florida to be recovered using diving equipment.

A woolly mammoth and a saber-toothed cat friends?
Only in the movies.
During the true Ice Age, though, a mammoth, a saber-toothed cat and a giant sloth would have looked at each other as food, not friends, and have fought over who would get the baby for its afternoon snack.
ONE OF MANY
Some were swallowed up by deep crevices created by cracking glaciers and falling walls of snow and ice.
Scientists believe thick walls of ice began forming in Canada. When they got to be more than 50 feet tall, the ice began breaking and flowing across the land forming massive ice sheets over most of Asia and about half of North America.
Jafar Hadizadeh, professor of geography and geosciences at University of Louisville, said the ice sheet stopped at what is now the Ohio River. He said that when the ice retreated, it created the Ohio Valley. CONNECTING THE CONTINENTS For example, explorers have discovered skeletons of mammoths in Russia, huge armadillos and sloths in South America, giant deer in Germany and dwarf deer in Italy. North America became home to many of these ancient animals that had escaped the frozen continents to the North. Many fossils are still being discovered in field excursions today. Findings are sent to museums for cleanup and then on to paleontologists for further study.

An Evaluation of Chaco Anasazi Roadways
This paper was presented at a poster session during the 1996 Society for American Archaeology meetings in New Orleans. The poster summarizes research on prehistoric roads of the Chaco Anasazi, a society that developed in the northern American Southwest between A.D. 900 and 1150. While many scholars believe that the roads integrated Anasazi communities into a large regional network built around reciprocal economic relations, the research reported here suggests that other factors determined where roads were constructed. This research makes heavy... Site produced by: a Professor/Lecturer

Ice Age Mammals
During the last Ice Age, there were many large, interesting mammals, like the saber-toothed cats, giant ground sloths, mastodons, and mammoths. These animals have long since gone extinct and are known mostly from fossils, from frozen, mummified carcasses, and even from ancient cave drawings. The Last Ice Age
The last Ice Age started about 70,000 years ago and ended about 10,000 years ago (during the Pleistocene epoch). The Earth was much colder than it is now; snow accumulated on much of the land, glaciers and ice sheets extended over large areas and the sea levels were lower. These phenomena changed the surface of the earth, forming lakes, changing the paths of rivers, eroding land, and depositing sand, gravel, and rocks along the glaciers' paths. What Is a Mammal?

It had impressive, spiralled tusks which measured up to 4.9m (16ft) long, making them world record holders amongst the elephant family. Pronunciation of scientific name MAM-oth Statistics 4m (13ft) tall at the shoulder and up to 10 tonnes in weight. Physical Description One of the largest elephants ever to have lived, the Columbian mammoth was like a large African elephant but with a more sloping back and long, spiralled tusks. One tusk from a mammoth found in Texas had a tusk measuring 4.9m (16ft), the longest of any of the elephant family. There is some debate as to how much hair the Columbian mammoths had and some scientists suggest that they had a full fur coat like the woolly mammoth. It is more likely that hair grew more extensively on some parts of the body, such as the top of the head, but that they were basically elephant-like with exposed naked skin, greyish in colour. Distribution Columbian mammoths ranged through the southern half of North America and south into Mexico.

As the climate of the Ice Age began to warm, the melting glaciers supported tall, lush grasses that were the food of the giant mammals. The earliest Native American hunters were nomads who trailed behind the giant animals . As the hunters tracked the animals, they also gathered fruits nuts , and roots for food . Some of the earliest Native Americans lived in caves. Others lived in tents made from animal skins. The earliest hunters made their tools and weapons from sticks, animal horns, and bones. Hunters first used sharp sticks for spears. Then they learned how to sharpen stones into spear points . In time the atlatl or spear thrower was invented.
